They eyed her up and down with a half-smirk.
Striking, yes; and unfamiliar, although something in the way she carried herself was engaging to the dragon-turned-human. They approached; a little cautious, but they were almost dangerously curious. And so here they were, pausing nearby.
"Are you lost?" they asked, after a moment, "I'm told I give great directions..."

âIf I had a bloody oren for everyone that requested Toss a Coin, Iâd be able to retire to Toussaint with enough coin to live the rest of my days in comfort. No, I am very sorry, but we shall be tossing no coins to ungrateful Witchers today. Or ever. Never ever again.â

The roots all around him moaned and groaned, the wood slowly growing and expanding as it stretched out further in search of water and nourishment. It was almost inaudible unless your ears were attuned to it, and after several hundred years, Loki had become accustomed to the sound. At times it was like white noise, he barely noticed it as he chatted away to the termites and woodlice that crawled in the darkness, or to the apparitions he would create with his magic so he would have some companionship.Â
At other times, all he could hear was the groaning of the roots, and it was maddening, It reminded him that he was stuck here, that Odin had left him to this cruel fate. Heâd been tossed away, locked here in this place like he had meant nothing. Odin had once claimed Loki was mistaken in thinking he wasnât loved. Well, it that were true, he wouldnât have been put here now would he?
Loki wasnât sure how long heâd been here. At first he had marked the days as they passed, or what heâd believed was days passing by. It was hard to tell when there was no light to differentiate between day and night. After a couple of years had passed, heâd stopped counting, and now he had lost all sense of time. No one else was here, this prison was for him and him alone, and no one came to visit him. He doubted anyone but Odin even knew he was here.Â
Loki was, what he had always been....

She wasnât supposed to be in here. Nobody was. The shrine had long since gone forgotten, the ancient wooden emple falling to ruins. It was a miracle the roof hadnât caved in yet. But she was tired of people, and tired of smiling, and -- perhaps most importantly -- her curiosity gnawed at her until she gave in. So past the village walls, down the grown-over road, and through the thin tree line she went, until she entered the dusty ruin.
It had been beautiful once -- anyone could see that. Master craftsman had built this to honor a long-forgotten goddess, whoâs image had been carved into the altar. But time and weather had worn it away, and she knelt before the statue, barely three feet in height, running delicate fingers over the goddessâ face. âWho were you, I wonder?â she asked, expecting no answer to come.
