Early birthday present!
while having coffee with our friends Frodalyn and Mike, I mentioned I had read an article about Ate Wamz and hoped to someday get a traditionally done batek (tattoo) from her. As it turned out, they just happen to be friends with her, so Frodalyn messaged her on the spot, and hooked me up!
The pattern I got is a version of Aniito (eye of the soul, a protection symbol), and it came with some teachings about local indigenous culture, and stories about Ate Wamz' work spreading awareness and appreciation for it. I expected it to be more painful than other ink I've gotten, but I'd say it was about the same amount of pain. It will take a few days for the dots to spread out and fully connect into lines.
(And don't worry--Eleanor's is just stenciled on. No tattoos of any kind for her until she's older.)
