If she had known the response, it was debatable whether Valoren would have given her advice at all. As it was, when Ziikya questioned if she really wanted to know what lit the flame in his soul, her ears had raised at full attention, curiosity playing too evidently across her features as the swamp Galra rose to his feet. But they immediately dropped and flattened back at the sight of his eyes narrowing and his feet moving – carrying him closer to her.
This was not what she had prepared for in his response.
Instinct railed at Valoren to retreat: Ziikya may have been an example of grace and poise, but he was not weak and powerless. She was well aware of that, especially looking at him as she advanced upon her, and for a moment she was actually afraid of her fellow celebrity until he stopped and began to speak again while she held her breath and listened to his words.
“Secretly a sadistic little thing, aren’t you?” Valoren finally whispers into the space between them, and her lips curl up into a hint of a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “Relishing in their personal agonies as a projection from your own. . . But Ziikya.”
Here, she pauses, and the smile falls away with a frown. A part of her wants to reach out to touch him, but another part wonders if that would be unwise. She ends up with her hands clasped in front of her, watching.
“’Making others feel how I have for too long.’ What are you talking about? What has. . .”
