You keep that in the back of your mind and cruise right along on some imaginary destiny that you’re convinced will reveal all once you reach it. Then, something happens. An anomaly in the field. That's what we voted for in 1998, and the key to the future is full recognition of that. In Northern Ireland, the challenge is that it's not any less British than Finchley, but it's not as English as Finchley. It's as Irish as Cork, but it's maybe not as Irish as Cork. When I played rugby for Ireland, it was a Britishness that could also be Irish and it was an Irishness that could be British. We need to relax.
