Objectified Theory Posting Time!
Today's question: Is ID_SHROUD sentient and potentially capable of communication?
Warning: Massive Yap Under Cut
It's a known thing that the parasites (likely as a consequence of the hivecore's signal) are not purely mindless monsters. They are able to play dead and mimic voices in order to lure survivors into traps, and potentially much more as more hivecores and easter eggs are constructed. HOWEVER of particular interest is ID_SHROUD as something I've noticed before and ESPECIALLY in the comic's most recent update the exact things ID_SHROUD chooses to mimick seem... oddly coherent
Like, here are the lines spokken by the Shroud in its introductory episode, ep 35 Hide and Seek: - "A spider object must live here" - Shroud announcing its presence to Dynamite and Mushroom "Okay I'm done looking! I'm done!" - spoken while chasing Dynamite and Mushroom after it "found" them
These three in quick succession after having lost them "You cant just WALK in here" "I'm going to eat you!" "Stupid fucking machines" And then after a little bit with them hiding and discussing among themselves, it yells in a red speech bubble: "Enough talking! Finish the Job!"
While there's room here for it to be random, it all feels really easy to follow if you assume intention behind each line. This to me not just a sign of attempted communication but, even more strangely, personality
A bizarre mix of bravado threats, and frustration ESPECIALLY when it loses track of the two and (potentially) starts swearing at them
And perhaps even more damning, this entire scene:
That thing is straight up begging for its life
But that brings us to the latest episode, and also why I'm making this theory to begin with: the shroud in Ep 107 is NOT mimicking lines the way we've seen them do prior.
The shroud is mimicking Dynamite's speech to mushroom in the previous mushroom/dynamite chapter, but the words are all scrambled and some of them are missing. The meaning of each statement is changed
After the initial perfectly mimicked "I'm so DEFENSELESS" we get two unique sentences:
"I feel like you don't like when you're upset"
"I don't want to make flowers"
Now I do not know what the meaning behind those could be, but the fact that the Shroud is even capable of creating its own sentences by picking and choosing the words of others is WEIRD. I can't think of a reason it would do this EXCEPT to try and communicate something
If ya'll have thoughts/theories on whats going on here I would love hear them!
