The Locket
Flashback: Naitailia strolls down the streets of Ironforge, grinning to herself about her new work.
“Finally,” she mutters under her breath happily as she nods politely to a dwarven couple walking past her. She makes her way to the inn she had been staying at for the last few nights and heads straight to her room. I’ll need to clean out this bloody thing if I want to use it, she thought to herself as she picked up her old supply bag from Gilneas. She hadn’t really gone through it since she left and had forgotten what was in it...and would probably have to buy a few new supplies.
She unbuckles the flap and opens the bag, peering inside at a very odd assortment of fake jewels. She laughs to herself and pulls them out, tossing them on the bed. Garbage. Next she’d pull out a few settings, a couple of bands she had made back home but hadn’t really thought of since then. She tosses them into the keep pile, those were real.
She pulls out a pair of jewelry pliers and a few more spools of assorted wires. Something in the bottom of her bag catches her eye, a silver glint from under a few old pieces of parchment. She squints and tosses the parchment on the bed before gingerly reaching for the oval shaped locket in the bottom of her bag. Abi’s locket...
She began to cry as she held the locket to her chest. The front of it was adorned with a rose vine around the shape of the locket, a delicately etched letter ‘A’ had been engraved in the middle of the locket. Nait opened it carefully, fully aware of what was inside, but she had to brace herself. Inside was a small picture of Nait and Abi, both of them smiling in the only picture Nait had ever gotten of the two of them. Nait’s arm was wrapped around Abi’s. Nait had been very young when this was taken...17 at least.
Nait sighed, her eyes welling with tears again as she carefully closed it and put the delicate silver chain around her neck. Maybe one day I’ll give it to her...
