Mamihlapinatapei - The look between two people in which each loves the other but is too afraid to make the first move.

       This time for sure Oikawa was convinced his team would win. They trained their hardest, he nearly pushed himself to his limits, yet it seemed that still wasn’t enough. Aoba Johsai came close both sets, but failed to take even one from Shiratorizawa. Though he was used to the feeling of crushing defeat, of always coming out second best, it didn’t hurt any less as he say in an empty hallway of the Sendai City Gymnasium, long since parted from his team, claiming he’d catch up soon. Iwaizumi gave him a concerned look, one that said “we’ll talk later”. He was fine. He just needed time to himself for a bit.

       Every once in a while he heard the squeak of shoes on the floor, others passing by, but with the game over the gym would clear out soon enough. He’d have to leave. Raking a hand through damp brown locks, Oikawa was about to push up off the bench when he noticed a girl standing before him. She said nothing, only held out a cookie, pressing forward for him to take it. Confused, the setter tilted his head yet accepted the gift. Before he could even pose any questions the girl quickly scurried away. Odd, he thought, but he happily accepted the cookie. It was delicious.

       A few weeks later, Oikawa runs into this girl again during summer break. It’s not exactly on purpose since he doesn’t know who she is-doesn’t even know her name. It’s by chance that he happens to recognize her at a festival. She’s wearing a cute pink yukata (his is dark blue, a color he’s rather fond of on himself), and he sees that she looks a little lost. She seems kind from what he remembers, the type to have friends, but they’re not there... He supposes now is as good of a chance as any. Donning a bright smile, the setter approaches her.

       For all of his popularity among the female students at his school, Oikawa’s gone on very few dates, so he isn’t exactly experienced, and when faced with an actual date with a girl he really, genuinely holds interest in and wants to impress, he finds himself nervous. He hopes it isn’t too obvious, but it’s probably glaringly so considering his usual confident aura. He can’t really fathom why Kotori would actually want to spare some time for him when she’d likely much rather be with her friends, working on her new dances and songs, but he certainly doesn’t mind. 

       It isn’t until he feels a slight nudge and a squeeze to his hand until he’s snapped out of his worried daze.

       “Come on, Oikawa-kun! Let’s go feed the ducks!” 

       The smile she sends his way eases him a little, and Oikawa can’t help but return the gesture, trailing after her. 

Plenty of entertainers were there. Some idols, actors and even comedians. Everyone was taking their time to help out. It made Otoya smile.

Stepping away from his friends, he went off to go buy some water at the stand. In the line, he noticed a familiar person. She noticed her hair, eyes and her smile. What really stood out was her bow. ...It couldn’t be...
