On the Lucifer/Iblis dispute Part 2 In the previous part we spoke about Iblis from Judaic perspective then we spoke about it from an Islamic principle. So where did the name Lucifer come from? Why is it assumed that Lucifer is the devil and could he be Iblis? To answer this question we must look at the meaning of Lucifer, Lucifer means the bringer of light, the morning star. It has been assumed that this is a reference to Venus. The planet associated with erotic love and romance. So who has been called as Lucifer. Jesus was called as the morning star in the Bible. However, is that to correlate him with Venus or the sun. Here we can understand that it has to do with Astrological phenomena embodied through mythologies or stories of God's on different planes. The question here that can be aroused is, what do astrological phenomena convey? They convey patterns, that have been recorded over the ages to understand and predict results of certain activities and certain phenomena. Now what does that have to do with Lucifer who is as well the name of a Middle Eastern King called Halal Ben Sahar, which means the star of morning or son of dawn. It can help us conclude that Iblis was a Lucifer or is one. Just like Jesus, just like the Middle Eastern king this can mean that it is a degree that a being can attain. However, this conclusion can be critiqued this is due to the possibility Samael being the name of the devil before he fell and being called Lucifer if we are willing to assume that it has to do with being God's favoured one. However, does this really contradict that? In the next part we will talk about the origin of the name Samael in Islam and Christianity and the difference between both perspectives and hopefully we will get to grasp a bit of the significance of the name Lucifer.
