Day thirty one

I was fairly certain that I wouldn’t be able to meet my goal, given that I spent a lot of time not writing because of Life Things and then only had tonight to catch up nearly 5K. I was okay with this, because my fic has progressed to the tantalising stage of nearly complete this month despite everything, and it’s all planned out and ready to go! ... Then this evening I realised my ‘start of camp nano 2017′ marker in one of my edited chapters was nearly 2k later than it should have been, and also wrote ~3k. Suddenly, I’m a winner! (less than twenty minutes before the end of July)

A chapter will be speeding its way to archive of our own sometime this week, since I have time to edit, but now I’m going to celebrate by sleeping! Congrats to all the other Camp NaNo participants, whether you won or not - progress is progress.

Day nineteen

Finally kind of on my ammended target... It’ll be a push to hit the 30K still, but maybe I can get there, if I’m lucky. A lot of today’s writing was kind of satisfying to get out. It also felt like an ending (and was, in a way, but not of the fic). I’ve got one gap to fill in and then I’m on to a chapter that was only recently planned to be the way it will be (... vague, I know), but I’m looking forwards to writing it!

I wrote nowhere near my intended 5K today - but that’s not a bad thing! I filled in all the gaps I’d left in what I’ve written so far (although at this point I feel like I’ve spent so much time on those scenes that I don’t know how I feel about them, so we’ll see how brutal the editing process is), and most importantly, I plotted out the entire rest of the fic. I now have an ordered list of events (in varying amounts of detail) that takes me right up to my end point, so that relatively low word count represents a lot of progress. I’ve lowered my goal to 30K to account for this, so fingers crossed - now that I know what I have to write next, it’ll hopefully be easier to knock out the remaining 10K over the next few days.

This also puts me in a position to make (extremely rough) estimates of the final length, which is kind of exciting. The end is in sight! It should almost certainly pass 100K, which I never would have believed just over a year ago, and I’d hazard a guess at 20-25 chapters.

Day seventeen

As is probably obvious from all the flat bits of my graph, slow week and a half of writing! But over the next few days I’m going to knock out a high wordcount I hope - shooting to hit my 35K goal by Thursday or Friday this week, because the rest of the month is pretty busy/I’m away, but to do that I need to be getting 5K days...

Finally, some writing! Not much, but it’s a start.

A respectable day of writing today. I’m going away tomorrow until Sunday though, so I’ll be quiet until Sunday night or Monday. I’ve got a looong train journey, so I’m going to try out handwriting a few bits during that maybe, but we’ll see... I’m far enough ahead that it doesn’t matter if I write nothing for three days (I’d still be a little above my personal target), but I’m going to jot down some notes and see what I can get done!

Day five

On a roll! I found Harry Potter writing crawls on the NaNo forums and they’re incredible - this is the result of maybe 2/3-3/4 of the book one crawl and the virtual write-in this evening. I kind of skipped through stuff today and left gaps to go back and fill out because I wasn’t sure what I was doing, but once I’ve finished the (super exciting) section I’m writing now I’m going to go straight back to those. Tomorrow will be a bit slower I expect, I’m meeting up with a friend, and I’m still not going to do any goal adjustments until at least Monday, but I’m very happy with how it’s going! Hopefully this fic will actually be finished by the end of camp, ready for editing and posting.
