It was a bit of a struggle for Kurt to hold himself up properly as Nyph walked around. It wasnāt only due to his exhaustion or lack of strength, but he found that the comforting warmth surrounding him in the form of the harpyās wings was maybe too calming. Within minutes he found himself starting to doze off, a little bit later and he caught himself almost sliding down because he wasnāt holding on properly. He had to stay awake, he would only make it harder for Herr Engel if he fell asleep. He had to stay awake, he had to-
It was at the fifteen minute mark that Kurt was oh so quietly snoring underneath the soft feathers, and by the time that they reached the motel not a single thing would be able to wake him.
Not even the extreme tension that seemed to enter the room as the man behind the desk took a look at the two strange people that just entered his work place.
āHmmmā¦ā He looked at this odd man and the even odder pair of feet peeking out from under his arms. He wasnāt too sure about the lump he could kind of see behind him, but the straggly looking pants and the extremely strange blue feet were enough to raise a brow. They definitely werenāt from around here.
He considered to tell them to leave right this moment, to keep himself out of trouble, but he reconsidered. This man looked kind of desperate, his accent made it known that he wasnāt from around here. Maybe he could make a quick buck.
ā<Ah yes, let me see⦠a twin bed room will be 50 euro a night.>ā He told him. Usually, it would only be about 25, they really werenāt running a high end establishment here, but as long as this foreigner didnāt make any fuss about this price he might be able to pocket the difference.
He felt Kurt fall asleep and afforded himself a small smile. Good. Kid needed it. His wings shuffled just slightly, pressing more firmly against his arms and shoulders to keep him from slipping down too quickly and cushioning his head to stop it flopping around.
In the motel, for a moment, he feared thereād be drama. He feared the man would chase them off and theyād have to find somewhere else to look for the night.
50 Euro! Nyph wasnāt great at mental math, but even without converting it into more familiar currency, he knew that was pricey for such a run down, empty little place!
ā<Is that... ehm, is that with breakfast, or something?>ā
ā<No, flat rates,>ā the shopkeeper said, leaning back in his chair. Ā
Damn it. Fine. Bloody crook. Nyph couldnāt tell if this guy really did charge these outrageous prices or if it was some more subtle way to get him to leave. Fuck it.
ā<Fine,ā he said, making no attempt to hide the bitterness in his voice. It draw a raised eyebrow from the man. āJust one night then, please.>ā
He wrapped up the transaction and couldnāt help noticing how pleased with himself the man looked. Tomorrow, Nyph would look up the motelās prices online and see if he could call him out on it. But, tonight? The last thing they needed was drama. Nyph took the key and left without so much as a goodbye, stalking to the little demount able that would serve as their home for the night.
Wriggling the key into place without waking Kurt was interesting, but Nyph was fairly sure he managed. It looked exactly like he expected. Two single beds with minimal bedding, perhaps dangerously minimal considering the encroaching chill of winter. Coffee-stained bedside tables, an equally stained closet, and a door to one side that had to lead to the bathroom. The air was also stained, but it was with the smell of cigarette smoke from decades past.
Nyph pushed the door closed behind him and stood in the room for a moment, breathing deeply. Then, he rolled his head back, touching it to Kurtās.
ā<Hey, little blue,ā he whispered, wings shifted to rouse him. āWeāre here. Come on, wake up. Go have a nice hot shower while I order pizza.>ā
