Calvin Lancer

Lancer is the builder and ruler of Delacruz Harbor. Depending on who is asked, he’s either an exemplary leader who stands above a regular human, or a heartless and self-righteous overlord. Rumors abound that his recorded history doesn’t add up, but he is otherwise known as a transparent and personable ruler. Much of this positive opinion is the result of generations of social conditioning and manipulation. It is true that Delacruz has it better than many places outside its walls, however.

Lancer will go to lengths that defy imagination to keep his city safe from the warheads and follies of America, and has done so successfully for a long time. He’s generally compassionate toward his people, but he assumes himself infallible, which makes his actions misguided at best. He is ruthless against dissenters. He also has an irritating habit of being right, one way or another, for reasons known and some unknown. He has only ever conceded an argument to his daughter, Jessamine.

He recruits and eventually falls for Teagan, who isn’t chipped. Lancer is certain he can be convinced to undergo the procedure, but he doesn’t realize that Teagan’s stubbornness rivals his own.

The anti-government group, “Noble”, is sick of his totalitarian regime, and represents those radically opposed to his methods.

Teagan Lawrence

Teagan was orphaned by the last assault by America before the Aegis was completed. After that, he was traded around the homes of relatives until the age of sixteen, when he determined he’d get more for himself on his own. He had a rough handful of years until he met Elaine, who took him in and provided him the safety and support he needed to get on his feet. Teagan considers her the only family he has.

He’s happy to have his little corner of the world even though he’s a second-class citizen; all he wants is something of his own, and he successfully achieved that by working. However, after the revolution formed, his space and actions were rudely disrupted by Noble and his followers. He puts up with the situation as a favor for Elaine.

Teagan was a bartender in a downright depressing part of town when Lancer entered his life. Since Teagan was pretending to be a sex worker on the side as a cover for the revolutionaries regularly going in and out of his apartment, Highguard Bell accosted him with the claim that he was going to be chipped for his own safety. Once in custody, he was instead swept away to meet personally with Calvin Lancer, who proposed he become his double-agent.

Disinclined as he was, Teagan accepted the offer after consulting Elaine; they concluded that the opportunity was too ripe to pass up. He soon found himself filtering information to Lancer’s agents, repeating only things that had been told directly to him by Elaine. Despite Teagan’s constant distaste, Lancer took a shine to him and demanded that Teagan report to him directly. Their growing personal relationship eased Teagan’s resentment toward him.
