I’ve heard some people saying how annoyed they are at all these accusations of sexual assault, abuse, inappropriate behavior, etc. continuing to be brought up on the news. I get it; it can be exhausting. It can seem like just a huge show of greed. “They must just want the money.” But what it’s given the victims is a way of freeing themselves of information that they’ve had to carry for years. Weighing down their lives, messing with relationships, causing anxiety and guilt. I know because I experience it. It’s something you struggle with every day. And some days it’s in the background; easy to ignore, quiet. Other days it’s an animal waiting to pounce. Something that causes you to be in a constant state of vigilance. But suddenly, when you feel you’re alone in the struggle, someone else comes along and says #metoo ; I struggle. I carry. I fight. You’re not alone. So please, before you quiet the noise, before you tell us to hush again, allow us the freedom and room to finally say what we’ve struggled against and kept under wraps.
