iamilex replied to your post: im still so FUCKING mad about daredevil
I don’t go here, but I’m curious.
i’ve honestly blocked out a lot of season 2 because i hated so much of it, but WHAT I REMEMBER is that in season 1, like, the bedrock of the whole damn thing was matt and foggy’s friendship. they had just started their own firm together and everything. like the last four episodes of season 1 were all about foggy finding out matt’s secret and being mad about it, and matt being absolutely destroyed by foggy’s rejection/anger. the end of the season was like, they got a new sign for their firm! they were rebuilding their friendship around this daredevil thing!
then season 2 happened. they tried to do three Big Bads in thirteen episodes, i am not kidding. like all at once. and that bedrock of matt-and-foggy? destroyed. matt makes foggy take a case that foggy doesn’t want to take and then matt completely bails on him. foggy gets shot and matt doesn’t even go see him. matt refuses to apologize for anything, and then his big thing when foggy confronts him about being a shithead is “i’m done apologizing for Who I Am” or whatever. by the end of it, foggy takes a job somewhere else and he and matt aren’t even speaking to each other.
in season 1 i could understand and empathize with the inner conflict matt was going through. he clearly cared very much for foggy despite not being able to express it. in season 2, they wrote matt in such a way that it really looked like he didn’t give a shit at all about foggy, or their practice, or really anything. the bedrock of the whole fucking show got sidelined to make way for more big baddies and More Punching. and matt turned into an honest-to-god jerk. like i feel like there’s a line. on one side of it you’ve got a character who is conflicted and sometimes makes bad decisions and hurts the people he loves, but you can understand his choices and motivations and you feel bad for him because of it. on the other side you’ve got a character who is just an asshole and every justification for his bad decisions falls flat and sounds like a lame excuse. matt was the former in season 1; he became the latter in season 2.
AND I’M NOT EVEN GONNA APPROACH WHAT MATT DID TO MY BABY GIRL KAREN. FUCK HIM.
