I thought Iβd grab some dinner and stay around Bβham in some parking lot or truck stop on my push to the Gulf of Mexico, though messed around so long looking up stuff for next sections of this adventure the dinner options narrowed considerably for Sunday night. . I ended up the south side of Bβham in Bessemer, Alabama, which I remembered having been to before, though couldnβt remember why. I looked up Bessemer industry and history to spark my memory. . The first thing that came up was that Bessemer ranks seventh in the list of Americaβs most dangerous cities. Birmingham isnβt far behind at twentieth, and Gadsden, where Iβd spent a good part of the afternoon doing Civil War and Bedford Forrest research and revisiting some places, is eighty-seventh in the list of one hundred. . The larger parking lots have Lot Cops, solar powered trailers with flashing blue lights and periscoping cameras, presumably 360. . Some of the lots have huge white cherry-pickers too, crane-like affairs with a box big enough to hold officers that raises high in the air to watch over large parking areas. . Iβd previously seen these cherry picker surveillance affairs in the borderlands and found it interesting theyβre now in major metropolitan areas of the Deep South. The smaller, autonomous, Lot Cop surveillance trailers were new to me. .
