DISCOVERED: "Power Race" by Les Thugs I spent a nice chunk of yesterday smelling pork tacos, performing menial tasks with the urgency of Paul Rudd's character from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and getting to know some unexplored vinyl on my shelf. (See also: Yesterday) I bought this album a few months ago because I recognized the band name (and label) from Virus 100, the 1992 tribute to the Dead Kennedys that played a large role in my younger days. Les Thugs cover "Moon Over Marin" on that record, and they were often skipped in the 90s. I'm sorry. You just weren't anywhere close the amount of fun that came with a fist pump choreographed with the "California Uber Alles" cover. Les Thugs' cover still doesn't do much for me, but I liked what this French band does with I.A.B.F. It's sort of skate punk shoegaze, highly caffeinated coffee for very sensitive teeth. This is the kind of song that would have been a temporarily consistent morning starter for a younger me, and I won't pretend that it won't be echoing throughout the trailer park at random times this week or whenever my buddy Beaner (calm down...he's a Cherokee Scotsman) makes his next return to the SoDak homeland. You will either love this song or you will hate it. No matter what, a breakfast taco is going to happen tomorrow. Learn more about Les Thugs here.
