everyone gives praise to animated films for older kids or the whole family but you shit all over anything for little kids. it’s good if you can relate or if it takes on ~serious issues~ but the second it’s just there to look cute and entertain children it’s garbage. but you know what? if you actually sat and watched them with an open mind, remembering that you are not the target audience, you might actually find something.

fuck i still watch nick jr sometimes because it’s pretty colors and a super simple plot and i’m not up to getting mindfucked by something like gumball. plus, i LOVE seeing what kind of stuff little kids like because when i was little my parents HATED my shows and made me stop liking them. they shamed me for it (“that’s for babies”) and then replaced it with something they liked (“these are real cartoons”) even though deep down i just wanted to watch barney and shit. kids know when grown ups dont like their favorite things and it hurts their feelings.

i see almost every movie that comes out and i make a point out of seeing any and all kids movies because, unlike most adults, i CARE about what little kids are watching. and i don’t mean i care if it’s good or bad for them, i mean i care enough to learn about the stuff they like so we can talk. and all the kids in the theater loved boss baby. they loved minions too. and they’re gonna love emoji movie. but not because kids will like anything, they dont and they’ll let you know if they dont cause kids are real with you. they’re gonna like it because it’s silly fun and that’s ok.

the only time adults like and praise kid’s movies or shows is if they’re super dark for some reason. that’s why adults love disney movies and it’s what got many adults into shows like SU and MLP. unless it’s dark in some way, it isn’t worth being enjoyed. everything else is bad or meme fodder.

cartoons and animated movies are only valued when they touch on heavy shit but newsflash, asshole, kids dont always want that. they don’t need everything to have some deep message about life. sometimes they wanna give their little, underdeveloped brains a break because life is tough and they had a long day of learning.
