Okay, so I wanted to talk about this for a minute, because I’m still in tears.
CoryxKenshin is a lets play YouTuber who has done pretty well for himself. I am particularly passionate about this man because I love to see our people doing well. He has over 1,000 videos, and even dropped out of college to focus on something 100%.
He made headway and made a profitable business, getting numerous sponsorships. He has also used his platform to raise millions of dollars for charity. I am very proud of him. He is doing all the right things.
Now on to this video. Cory was contacted by the Make-a-Wish foundation to visit Shalyn, a little girl with cancer who really wanted to see him. Lets talk about the implications of this for a moment.
Shalyn could have picked to see or do any thing. She picked to see Cory.
This is why representation matters. Having people who look like you, it’s special. It leaves an impact. White people take this for granted because they will always have someone with similar experience as them to connect with. There are a lot of things unfairly stacked up against Cory, against Shalyn, against all of us. We can come together and have fun in spite of that. It’s not a political stance. It can and does happen with all sorts of people, yes. It’s just as special and just as pure. There are just a lot of context: there are so many things against black people, even within the community. It’s so heart warming to see things go right in spite of that.
This is why net neutrality matters. Cory wouldn’t have even been allowed to make impact if everyone wasn’t on the same playing field. Cory put a lot of work into his channel. Years. Millions of work hours. Thousands of videos. He built up a lot of content so that made him more visible on YouTube. His content is valuable, show casing his personality, and people made a connection with him. He nor any one would have been able to do that if the net wasn’t free and neutral. I know this has been knocked around a lot but this is what America is actually about: hard work and determination being REWARDED! We don’t and shouldn’t allow bullies to push us around, taking our money. They shouldn’t get to win because they have more money, more influence. The people who WORK should be rewarded! Cory put in a lot of work. He inspired this little girl in a hard time of her life. No one is asking CEOs and Lawyers at Verizon to go play games at Dave and Busters. Cory freggin won.

I cried too! Read something happy, or go for the fanfictions xD I read King’s Rising after TSoA and it made me feel (a little) better! Though… every time someone mentions Achilles or Troy I start to cry…
