❝ if they do it again, you tell me. ❞ / from emet!

That was a phrase that he had often heard from the esteemed Emet-Selch over the eons , one that had seen his many missteps and small achievements throughout his existence . He had grown the habit of linking said words to his face every time they were uttered and every time , regardless of the circumstances , his soul felt warmer because they didn’t make him feel alone . Because even if their star had crumbled into a fate he never expected to live through , in their little corner composed by just the three of them , those words alone made him feel surrounded by the warmth of many familiar faces . And it was because he could count on Emet-Selch without suffering any sort of rejection from him in the first place ; he would always stand there , ready to swim his way into his crowded , tempered mind and put a hand on his weary shoulders .
To Elidibus , it was a silent ‘ I’ll take care of this ’ , each time such a phrase was murmured by pursed lips , always curved to match his sulking expression . And as the younger of the two lifted his gaze to meet the eyes of the other , a familiar spark would lit and reassure him .
With Lahabrea’s disappearance , the youth sought answers and visited the Warrior of Light by himself as a way to study the enemy from a closer approach . But the Warrior of Light grew , their willpower was astounding , so much so that the Emissary could hardly even keep up . And , once again , Emet-Selch’s reassurance resonated in the depths of his conscience , reminding him to seek him out if they do it again . And he did , without thinking twice he did . And , just as he thought , and just as Emet-Selch promised , he was there , ready to swim through his crowded , tempered mind and to rest a hand on his weary shoulders .
It was a recurrence that was becoming more and more often , almost an obsession to say the least . It lifted the youth’s soul to know that he wasn’t left alone ... but what next ? Whatever awaited them in the future , Elidibus knew that he could count on Emet-Selch for any inconvenience . Thus , he faced the future with his head high , fearlessly .
Or , well , so he thought , at least .
It happened again . Much to his own displeasure , they did it again ... but Emet-Selch was no longer around , and Elidibus had no one else to rely to but himself .
He swam desperately in that vast , infinite ocean that was his tempered mind only to find himself drowning in his own thoughts , in his fears , his paranoia , and his imperfections . No , how could someone like himself fall so low ? How could he lose at his own game ? He drowned alone , and as he sank deeper and deeper he realized that he would never hit the bottom ; he also knew that even if he swam , he would never reach the surface . So , what was his purpose at this point ? Why fight when he had nothing left to fight for ?
Seek him out if they do it again . Seek him , seek him ... and then tell him ...
His soul knew no surrender , but at that moment all he wanted was to rest ... forever , maybe .
