APRIL 16 AT FIORE VERONA, closed to @czarnichego
If God is real — though Maeve is pretty sure they aren’t — then heaven must look like Fiore Verona. In the middle of the day, as many in Verona are stuck in offices and the streets are as empty as the store, the light floods in and the greenery catches it and sparkles. It’s like every flower in the building is winking at her, beckoning for her to lean in and listen to its secrets.
Maeve is checking the soil of the plants she hasn’t watered yet when a customer walks in after an hour of quiet.
“Hi!” she exclaims, so loudly that it punctuates the air and shatters whatever peace had settled over the store. “Welcome! We’re having a sale — buy one, get one half off — and we’re also offering same-day delivery.”
She beams, bouncing over to the customer. “Oh, and I’m Maeve.”
