The all point of Mike was that Robert wanted to stay faithful to Aaron (after cheating on him but whatever). So if he dated him, it would basically have meant that Aaron really wasn’t that special to him that he could move on so easily and not face any consequences.

Yeah I suppose so. But I hated watching months of everyone shitting on Robert while he just took it all and kept pining for Aaron - who had been allowed to "move on" ( I know he didn't really but you get me).

Introducing Mike sooner as just this random nice guy Robert liked and then dated when Aaron "moved on" with doctor boring would have been interesting. Aaron never had to worry about Robert not being there when he was ready to be with him again (the 3 seconds of Mike the chef in the reunion ep don't count). Robert has shouted it from the rooftops over and over again how much he loves Aaron... But what if there was this cute Irish guy who was nice to Robert when nobody else was and just saw him as a random cute guy without all the drama and history and they actually dated for a while and Aaron had to face the fact that Robert might not always be waiting for him?

Even though everyone and their grandmother could see the heart eyes from both of them whenever they looked at the other. And how stupid they were being by pretending they had moved on and were happy with these two randomers.
