And I don't even think I explained why, even. Well, simply put, Caine got deleted, in-canon… but here he didn't. He got almost deleted. Files that are partially deleted… they're just corrupt, are they not? So, yeah. I also kinda wanted to emphasize how that changes not only him, but everyone else. Because no character is coming out unscathed. Like… NO one. Everything changes. Everything corrupts. :P
