People say responding to a compliment with “I know” is rude, disrespectful, cocky, or arrogant, and I get why people see it that way. At the same time, I don’t see anything wrong with someone acknowledging that they’re attractive, confident, and don’t need outside validation to believe it. Maybe I’m projecting onto a simple compliment, but I used to be so dependent on other people’s opinions of my appearance that it genuinely affected my mental health. Because of that, I don’t see the issue with raising a daughter to have enough self esteem and self confidence that she doesn’t need other people’s validation or criticism to determine how she feels about her looks.
