A deep question in regards to the muse: What does he believe the purpose of life is, and does he believe he himself has a distinct purpose? If so, what is it?
prior to moving to tokyo, ren didn’t give the purpose of life much thought, if any at all.
but when he came to tokyo, stumbled into the metaverse, awakened to the persona power, and formed the phantom thieves, it was something that he began to think about from time to time. now he and his new friends had the power to change people’s hearts, and make criminals the law enforcement can’t and won’t do anything about confess their crimes. a part of ren started to think and feel that this was his distinct purpose, bringing to light the horrible crimes that were lurking in the dark and living freely; bringing justice to the victims, and having the criminals deal with the consequences of their crimes; change the world to the better, even if just a little bit, even if it might be just a drop in the big sea.
which is essentially why, in the bad ending, he accepts the false god’s offer. like the phantom thieves can live on as heroes, and he doesn’t lose his purpose after having found one. basically just a selfish act to keep himself from feeling empty, and keep his powers as they have gotten to his head.
but in the actual ending when the metaverse disappears and they go back to just being regular kids again, ren doesn’t feel that he has lost his purpose with it, nor his earnest desire to bring on a change. the phantom thieves brought a lot of things to light, and if even just a little, they did a lot of good things for japan as a whole. (things would have been bad for the whole nation if shido ended up as prime minister after all.) ren has a strong sense of justice, and so, he sometimes considers a future occupation where he can try and continue making a difference.
as for a general thought about the purpose of life, he doesn’t really have one. people can and should simply be able to do what brings them happiness.
