On Saint-Justās (Good?) Looks
I got asked about my opinion on Saint-Justās physical appearance and to be perfectly honest I have no idea. For a man whoseĀ āmythā includes so many references to looks and beauty, we really donāt know. I already said I believe the whole narrative of extreme beauty is a later fabrication with a strong dose of misogyny made to present SJ as the epitome of evil. That being said, I donāt think he was ugly, and I think his neatness and fashion sense helped him look good.
We know his father was tall, but idk if SJ was, too (the only description we have, I believe, is that he was of āaverage heightā). Contemporaries seem to agree that he was slender and pale (?) I donāt think there are many contemporary accounts that talk about him looking feminine, so thatās probably emphasized later. Similarly, there are not (m)any references to his mouth (AKA, 19c-20c historiansā fav subject).Ā
As for stuff like hair and eye colour: no idea.Ā It amazes me that we donāt have any contemporary proof (his passport? security card?) All descriptions from contemporaries are kind of vague. and I hate it; I hate that we donāt know.
