I spent $40 on address label paper, and it doesn't work.
You need to tell your word processor the exact brand and product number of the labels you use so that the formatting and spacing is correct, but no matter what I do it all comes out misaligned. Using the template built into LibreOffice Writer for Avery 5160 labels, the top left corner of the label sheet is perfect, but as you move right and down the alignment gets all messed up. The sheet is perforated into peelable labels, and the text document ends up stretched vertically and horizontally so the text of each one spills over between perforations.
Every tutorial I find online says "do NOT use the template provided by Avery, ALWAYS use the template from your word processor," but after three failed tests (these sheets cost 40 cents each), I downloaded the Avery template from their website anyway. Maybe the formatting is proprietary and they make it so you can only use their labels with their own software or something. Okay, so I tried that and it came out even worse! The entire text field is an inch off in every directions so every labels is split across four perforations! It's less than useless!
I've noticed that there is a difference in formatting between documents I print with my printer's app vs documents I print with a USB cable, so I tried reusing one of the ruined sheets by printing the labels with a cable this time, but now the printer won't recognize the connection. What sense does that make? I am physically plugged into the machine, and it won't let me send or receive data! This is infuriating! I hate the future!
I got these labels to save time because it took me three hours to handwrite every single address for my zine mailing this month, but it looks like I'm gonna have to keep handwriting them because the laptop, printer, word processor, and labels are all different brands that can't be coordinated with one another. Can't get my money back, but they're more than willing to send me a replacement for the exact same product that doesn't work. Goddammit.
