I, Doris share new song âJust Some Dorisâ
London-based DIY-pop queens I, Doris release some banging mummycore this winter: the bandâs own theme-tune, âJust Some Dorisâ.
This instant-earworm-indie-anthem, laced with sarcastic humour, lays out the I, Doris raison dâetre: they rail against societyâs tendency to disregard âwomen over 40â, denying them their voice, their individuality, and even their name. âJust some Doris, you can just ignore us. Donât need to know my name. Girls are all the sameâŠâ
On-stage, the band are all called Doris, as emblazoned in diamantes on their trademark tabbards. Off-stage, theyâre Cassie Fox (founder of the LOUD WOMEN festival â bass and vox), Lucy Morgan (ex-Thee Faction â keytar and vox), Abby Werth (Argonaut â guitar and vox), and Louisa Edwards Knight (Crack Foxes â drums).
Some Doris says: âIf we were darts players, this song would be our entrance music at the Frimley Green Country Club. We should totally be darts players.â
The single follows the release this spring of I, Dorisâ debut, âThe Girl From Claphamâ â a Chris Difford-approved re-working of Squeezeâs âUp the Junctionâ, giving her side of the classic story.
