Adding Spiritual Elements to TOTK/BOTW Gameplay
Sadly, despite being a pretty religion focused game there is not a lot of options to actually show devotion. Here are a few ways I bond with the Hyrulean spirits while playing!
*Always crouch before praying at the altar. I generally crouch, pray, leave offerings in that order so I don't accidentally pick up offerings. It's a small show of respect!
Various offerings at Hylia statues|Silent Princess' on Zelda's pedestal
*Leave offerings at goddess statues. Once you max out your hearts and stamina the statues don't get as much attention. Other great offering locations: Satori Mountain, The Leviathan Skeletons/Dark Skeletons, Temple of Time ground +Sky
*Cleanse yourself in springs, pools found in shrines, also great fairy pools. The Sacred Springs are a top choice but I also go to the depths at the Secret Spring of Revival. This can be a little bit more eloquently done in totk than botw, but jumping in none the less is good enough.
*Clothing is important! Hyrule is known for incredible fashion and lots of symbolism in their clothing. be intentional with the ingredients you use to dye your outfits. I dye my white outfits for the depths with silent princess to purify the clothes and to protect me in the depths (not an actual buff). I dye my sheikah outfit purple with muddlebuds to magically imbue their confusing properties with my sneaky outfit. etc I like to match the vibes of where I'm going with my outfits.
Red hair for Dinraal, Purple for Sheikah/Hylia, White for Nadyra/Satori combo
*Disarm in public spaces. It makes it a bit more authentic feeling when you aren't sitting in the middle of town strapped to the teeth. I usually only keep my bow equipped.
*Have some areas be no hunting zones such as forests around the Temples of Time or other sacred areas. Or do the opposite and pick specific sites for animal or monster sacrifice
*Spend time with the dragons. In botw you can leave offerings at their spawn sites, make pilgrimages to see them come up and go down. in totk you can ride on them and use that as bonding time. It's a good time to meditate and listen to the music. When I am farming for dragon parts or need a dragon to appear, I usually go to their spring and leave an offering.
Me needing Naydra fangs for armor
*Feed the animals! horses, sheep, goats, dogs, even stalhorse will eat apples or meat if you hold or drop the food. Dondons as well can be fed luminous stones, which are known to have connection to spirits.
*Use Shrine cutscenes as moment to recenter and meditate for a moment (aka don't skip the cutscene). I usually skip the cutscenes but sometimes I use the moments to realign myself especially if the shrine was really frustrating.
*Make your house into a shrine! With the gallery options you are able to post pictures on the wall. Usually I have pictures of the dragons or goddess statues, Sonia's grave, or geoglyphs. And you can change it anytime!

Hylian Talisman Craft
Hylian magical talismans in my styling begin with a Word of Power or a symbol.
The symbol may be a recognizable symbol from Hyrule or something with deep meaning to the sorcerer who is crafting.
A Word of Power is written in Old Hylian Syllabary which is based on Japanese kana. Due to this, the word of power will generally be a Japanese word written top to bottom.
D
A few examples I’ve come up with so far are as follows:
From there, if I choose to add clarifying text along with the Word of Power, I use English language written in the Hylian Alphabet that appears in games such as A Link Between Worlds and Breath of the Wild. I also intend to write occasional devotional works and inscriptions using this alphabet.
For example, I intend to inscribe this phrase along the wrapping grip design of a sacred wooden sword Im planning.
The wooden sword in the first image is an example of using meaningful symbols along with the Word of Power OHARAE “Great Purification.” I didn’t use any clarification text with that particular talisman but hope to create more in the future which are more complex.
In order to make full use of these talismans, one mustn’t just write the inscriptions. It is vital that energy or Force is focused through the tool into the talisman being created. This channeling of Force may leave the sorcerer fatigued because they have poured from within themselves. Because this is how talismans function, Force cultivation is an incredibly important practice in order to maintain and increase vitality.
Sword, triforce, dungeon boss
Sword: Name a kind of magic you have that gives you an “edge.”
While I haven't done any direct sex/kink magic, I definitely feel magick coursing through me when I'm channeling my sexuality/sensuality. So doing drag, burlesque, being with my play partners, etc. That also really connects to my work with Lord Dionysus, being in the whole performing-arts-gender-fuckery-sex domain!
A local dungeon was doing a class on kink magick for the spooky season, but they're very much a Do Not Go There dungeon/infamous in the community. Which is a shame, because I've been having a super hard time finding actual resources on kink magick.
The Triforce: What wish would you make if you could have any wish granted, and is it a wise wish to make?
I would wish to successfully get my degree and my dream job! I'm applying for a BFA in Costume Design (need to work on my portfolio next week), and it would be the best thing in the world to actually get to do that! (And maybe get nominated for a Tony 👀👀👀) I feel like it's pretty wise as I feel like that's what I want to do in life, but if the universe has other plans for me, I'm not sure what they are :p
Dungeon Boss: What has been your greatest challenge to overcome in your Craft?
This has less to do with my actual workings and more to do with myself, but getting over my emotional baggage and trauma has been a roadblock in a lot of my Craft. I get spiritual blockages due to it, such as the Samhain ritual this year, when I tried to use a spirit board, but was (and still am) going through so much that I couldn't communicate. I want to do some Shadow Work, especially with the Full Moon ritual I'm leading next month!
Thanks for your questions!
Burning The Gibdo's Bandages: A Revealing Spell
So a friend that I considered part of my family is no longer speaking to me due to getting involved with a highly toxic romantic partner. As upset as I am, I also don't want someone I loved like my own brother to stay in the thrall of a terrible person.
Obvious answer was to curse the shit out of her but I haven't been in any sort of state of mind for that to work. But the worst of the grief has faded, and now I thought I'd go about this a little differently. This is a Zelda inspired spell that I intended to be fairly basic and easy to modify, so if you don't practice pop culture magic feel free to modify it so it'll work better for you. If you do I'd love to know what you did!
(Also if you feel the urge to refine the chants, go for it! I'm pretty good at a lot of things but poetry ain't one of them haha.)
Moon phase- I cast this the night of the July 2018 lunar eclipse but if you don't have a conveniently occurring eclipse to mess with the energy of a full moon, it's probably best cast on the night of new/dark/whatever you call it when the moon is entirely hidden moon.
Supplies-
Paper - for the mask
black pen - for banishing the appearance of the positive & reinforcing/strengthening the appearance of the negative
White candle - for revelations and honesty + fire. Black could also work.
Tongs, tweezers, smoking gloves or something similar that will let you handle burning paper - fire safety is important please don't burn yourself/your home.
A fire safe container with a solid bottom - you'll be putting water in here.
Moon/sea water blend- Moon water to melt away the illusions and sea water to cleanse. (Thanks to @baduhennasraven for suggesting the moon water when I asked for advice over on Witchcraft Cafe!)
An activator sound. I used the Sun's Song because of the Zelda undead slaying theme I'm going with but chimes, bells, and clapping would also work. It just needs to be fairly crisp/sharp.
(Optional) herbs for banishing.
(Optional) super blue blood moon water, and/or storm water. It's a bit of extra kick.
(Optional) crystals. If you use them the crystals should correspond to the qualities in your target- to enhance traits to make them impossible to miss, to reduce the target's effectiveness at hiding specific undesirable traits, and/or to counteract specific types of toxicity, etc.
(Optional) Sun and Moon tarot/Lenormand/oracle cards - the Moon is representative of secrets and lies in the case of my particular target, but the Sun illuminates every nook and cranny that my target would like to stay shadowed.
(Optional but strongly recommended!) having wards and shields up. I assume you do but if you don't this is a good thing to do just in case your target cottons on and is also a magic user.
The process-
Pour your water into your container, add any herbs, prop up your cards, etc. If you're using crystals arrange them around your candle in a manner that seems fitting to you. Here's mine.
I used jet to reduce the effect of the target's relationship on my former friend (she's highly insecure and possessive and expresses this in terribly controlling behavior that historically would drive my friend nuts), carnelian and fluorite to reduce her ability to blunt others' perceptions, a clear quartz in place of kyanite to reduce the effectiveness of her manipulations, and a piece of seaglass (which is interchangeable with clear quartz in my particular practice) in place of turquoise to enforce honesty, so when she lies it becomes incredibly obvious.
With the prep work done, make your mask. I made a stylized version of the Gibdo mask, as you can see here-
Once the paper mask is made, write on the back of it with the black pen. "I, <target's full name or nickname you use for them> wear this mask. I am perceived as <powerful/likable/lovable/not a creep/etc>, because I am using this mask to hide <list the contradictory traits>." Here's mine, with my target's full name removed for privacy reasons.
Meditate and/or reflect on how the target's true nature has hurt you or the people you care about. Focus on the feelings this brings up.
Light your candle while doing so and chant/think:
"Despite your well-crafted trappings under all of your wrappings you're withered and full of decay. You certainly tried but from this flame you can't hide. I will it, your mask burns away."
Be extremely careful and light your mask from the flame. (This is where the tongs or something come in- don't hold it in your bare hands jfc) then extinguish it in the moon water.
If it doesn't immediately incinerate because you used decent quality paper, carefully repeat the burning as many times as it takes to be fully incinerated.
(Hey speaking of incineration, I used a page out of an old composition notebook and I didn't need more than one burn to get to the desired level of 'totally black, dissolves when you breathe on it'. In fact, if you're gonna do that or go the spiral notebook route, take it from me and don't use tweezers. The cheap stuff goes up like a christmas tree left by the side of the road for six months. It was an awfully big flame.)
When you're done burning the everloving shit out of your mask, focus on your sun card (or the flame of your candle) and think/chant, "When the sun rises anew with fresh things to do, you receive quite a surprise. Your father and mother, friends siblings and others, the veils all fall from their eyes. To your utmost despair your true self is laid bare and your influence is euthanized."
Focus again on your target's shitty side but this time visualize those qualities coming to the forefront and the effect on their interpersonal relationships that this will have- a SO realizes they're being manipulated, friends call them out or cut them off if they refuse to stop being shitty, etc.
End the spell by chanting/thinking, "from sun to moon, moon to sun, this spell is active until you fix what you've done". Play the Sun's Song or make your loud sharp sound.
Dispose of the ashes and used moon water in running water or flush it down the toilet if your septic system can handle it.

silly little headcannon please let me get my thoughts down:
so in Botw, Clavia gives Link a quest in Hateno Called “Secret of the Cedars”,
located on Madorna mountain; directly north of the village. Clavia sets up the quest by saying she found a letter in an old book in her house about a legend involving the mountain.
still with me? great.
if you go into any house in the village you’ll find these sugar/flour jars. the jars are Hateno’s signature blue and white colours with a logo of a three-peaked mountain range. it’s kinda hard to see, but it’s there. i think those jars are part of Hateno’s agricultural business.
it would make sense to associate the village with the mountain cedars because of its proximity and uniqueness. the odd placement of the trees is noteworthy. so noteworthy in fact, that hylians were writing folklore about it (evidence being Clavia’s letter). but that’s not all…
the tree-mountain motif isn’t just on jars; it’s design is literally EVERYWHERE in the village. painted on sheds, houses, furniture, crates, gates, pots, bowls, clothing, books, HELL EVEN THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER HAS THE LOGO ON IT.
safe to say, Hateno Village itself is associated with the Madorna mountain cedars. my guess is that this connection was made the very day that Hateno was created. the tree/mountain symbol is woven into Hateno’s very foundation which probably extended to their farming business, which is why the design on the jars is so interesting. i actually made my own Hateno jar! the hylian translates to “Secret Cedars Imports” :)
thanks for listening!

Goddess Pilgrimage -Totk Headcannon
some of link’s early training involved escorting travellers through Tanagar Canyon on a pilgrimage to the forgotten temple.
[actual evidence of pilgrimage routes is cannon from two sources. one being the fallen goddess statue quest where the statue explicitly tells link to make a pilgrimage through Tanagar Canyon, and the other being the ruins of a prairie schooner wagon found in the Canyon directly north of Lake Illumini]. just a fun little theory i had :)
