Today I spoke on 'How to keep your brand relevant in a 3 second world' w/ the brilliant visual artists @heatherwillems & @tschauer (who both with brands to tell their stories), & the brilliant Social Media strategist @helenstravels - who create & amplify brands stories daily. Some of the things shared was a. Know your customer- like really know them. Empathy over expertise is required here. You need Listeners not job titles or egos who have the emapathy to hear and listen. b. From there you will know what stories to tell and what stories not to tell. c. Make your customer the heroes in your story. d. Work with them to tell their stories, and within those stories, also tell how your Brand/products help them conquer their villain and guide them to glory. This is the campaign that sticks. Emotions over rational. e. When you do this, a wider audience who are on the same journey with your current Heroes, will see the authenticity in the story and also fall in love. f. Love defies time & space. If you create a love story, the customer will engage beyond the 3 seconds. Love is irrational. Logos without emotions are rational. Love will create deeper engagement. h. Work with story tellers who understand their artform and understands your brand and your customer - not egocentric artists. They can not see inside the customers heads - just their own. i. Brand managers need to empathize witj the customers minds and hearts. Going out to the community and the culture will help them see, and help them to justify to their peers that their fears are not credible, which will help them make the right moves around marketing & product development. Get out your ivory towers - if you don't you won't understand what is happening in the Cultural Zeigiest. h. Breathe and have fun. Take some risk, speak to people, then make shit they like. This will keep you relevant in a 3 sec world. Most of all be brave & bold - the gods will reward you & your customers will thank/ love you. We will also run a workshop on this in October & November.
