Introducing Time and Time Again

If you’ve read Stacee’s post at www.toofondofbooks.com, you’ve already heard the big news!

Anna and Bennett are getting a whole new look. And their stories are going to be bound together forever.

Introducing Time and Time Again: Anna’s story, Time Between Us, and Bennett’s story, Time After Time, all wrapped up together in one convenient and beautiful-looking book!

Now can we talk about this cover? Because I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this cover. Isn’t it stunning?

If you look closely, you’ll see the Chicago skyline in the upside down (yes, that was a Stranger Things reference for fellow fans) and the San Francisco skyline across the bottom. I love the way those two iconic cityscapes work together to capture the parallel worlds that Anna and Bennett live in.

But here’s the most amazing part: The whole cover was designed using curled paper.

You know how much I love paper.

The Hyperion design team brought in paper curling artist Sabeena Karnik to do something extra special with this cover, and to say we’re all blown away by her work would be a total understatement!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.

We started off with a bunch of great concept sketches and landed on this one as our favorite:

Then Sabeena went to work.

Sabeena creates the visual elements by combining typography and illustration made with paper strips, which she then attaches to a base. She uses the paper to produce different types of effects with lighting and shadows. The drawing serves as a guideline for sticking on 5mm or 10mm wide strips of paper. She explains, “The strips are curled, curved, folded, rounded, beautified and then glued on the edges for pasting on the base.” (source)

Sabeeena spent more than a month perfecting this design.

We’ve had so much fun watching her progress.

And finally, it’s finished. A book cover and a work of art.

We’re all in awe. We all hope you love it as much as we do!
