with march turning into april the dethawing from the cold winter has finally finished, easing citizens into a comfortable spring. the sun is out longer, days are warmer, and the cherry blossoms have bloomed. it, like every spring before it, feels like a fresh start for people of washington dc to once again get active and get their lives together now that they don’t have the frost of febuary to use as a reason to stay bundled up all day. with the season comes along one of the most well known obligations around, spring cleaning. are you jumping on top of the fresh energy to get your space sorted, or lounging around and trying to pull out a few extra days of winter? whatever you’re doing the place it’s happening in is absolutely essential, and when you’re forced into a new city out of the blue making a home out of anything is even more difficult than usual.
happy spring everyone! we know it’s been a little while since we’ve had our last task, and with so many lovely edits on the dash as of late we wanted to give you all something to do with the season change. this task includes a little bit of things we’ve done before, with both an aesthetic and questionnaire aspect, all focused around your muse’s home in the spirit of spring cleaning and giving us all a look into some of the details of your muse’s life here in washington!
- this task will include two parts, an aesthetic or edit of some sort, and a short questionnaire for you to answer underneath.
- the edit should include some number of pictures meant to show what your character’s living space looks like. feel free to take the aesthetic aspect however you’d like! you could take the route of a moodboard with nine pictures of some sort, or find a more complex template that you like. we really just want to get an idea of what your muse’s home looks like. if you need some help with ideas don’t hesitate to ask!
- for the questionnaire section you will find a list of questions below that we’d love to see you answer specifically about what your muse’s living space is like. answer these with as much or as little detail as you like, and if there’s some questions you really don’t know the answer to it’s totally fine to skip one or two as well as add extra details and information wherever you like

does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
does your muse like having guests over?
how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
note: as explained here there is an apartment complex for all character who have recently showed up in washington to stay while they get settled. you can absolutely say that your character is currently living in one of these apartments. if your character is the type who wants to live outside for whatever reason that’s fine but any character who wants a home would have one.
this is also a good chance for people who want some sort of roommates plot but haven’t established anything yet! definitely feel free to jump out there in the plotting channel or tags and find someone for your muse to live with! please make sure to confirm these plots with people before listing any roommates out in a post!
of course, as always, tasks are not mandatory, and have no time limit. you can do this for however many or few characters as you wish. but remember that completing a task for a character will count as an activity post for them! we want to make sure everyone feels like they have the time to do the task if it’s something you’re interested in doing. though we’d love to see both if you’re only interested in doing the aesthetic or the questionnaire definitely go ahead we’re thrilled with anything you have muse for!
finally please make sure to tag your posts with hwtask08 so that everyone can see the great posts you make! please give this a like when you have read it all!! ♥

welcome to hiddenwashington cribs ; natalie mckinnon edition
where does your muse live? a house? apartment? how big is the space?
natalie lives an apartment building in foggy bottom, which is decently close enough to the flower shop that she owns. the apartment is relatively big, which is perfect for when she would want to have her family over.
does your muse live with anyone else? who are those people?
although she was lucky enough to spend the majority of her time so far living alone (apart from when she had felix living with her), she now has the absolute misfortune luxury of living with emma vanity.
how much time does your muse spend in their place? do they go out often or spend a lot of time in?
she likes her apartment - every time she’s there, she’s trying to find the answer to the question ‘how many plants can i physically fit in this apartment?’ that number still to be determined, but she’s ready to put in more research
what is the view outside of your muse’s window?
there’s a view of one of the small parks in the neighborhood
what do they sleep on? do they have a lot of pillows? what about blankets or stuffed animals?
she admittedly is a blanket hog, and will sleep with multiple ones even in the dead of summer because she’s got the air conditioning blasting as well. no stuffed animals, but she has enough pillows to build several forts
what items do they keep next to their bed?
empty water bottles, a phone charger, whatever book she’s been trying to convince herself to read
what is your muse’s most valuable possession?
a photo of her family of course
does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
do plants count as trinkets? she’s got plenty of those.
does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
family, friends, their house back home
what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
some paintings and photographs, more plants, her style is very much a mix between bohemian and clean. she does have a nice record player that she’s proud of as well, and likes to show it off.
does your muse like having guests over?
typically she does, because she is very much a social person, but if her siblings are wondering why she’s not inviting them over as much anymore, she says they need to mind their own business and it’s definitely not because of her roommate being a death eater
how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
she is a very tidy person, and is good at decorating so it never seems like anything is out of place. everything has an exact spot, and she is certainly the type of person who can’t help herself but straighten things up when she’s at one of her sibling’s places
does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
plants plants plants. she has thought about getting a cat before, but plants are her full time attention getter. she brings ones home from the flower shop, but also spends a lot of her money on them. there’s plants in every room, and they’re her pride and joy
is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
she loves her apartment, which is why she’s not planning on moving despite her new roommate. her ideal house would be something with a big yard, even a greenhouse that she could have more plants. a big house so she could entertain.
- where does your muse live? a house? apartment? how big is the space?
marlene used to live in an apartment in georgetown. truly, she grew to love her little space after she had been there for years. but recently she’s moved into a much larger home with sirius outside of dupont circle. please pay no attention to the fact that their house is eight bedrooms and they haven’t cleaned any of them.
- does your muse live with anyone else? who are those people?
her husband sirius which is still weird to say so she just avoids wrapping her brain around it
- how much time does your muse spend in their place? do they go out often or spend a lot of time in?
it’s a pretty decent balance. marlene does work a lot, so she’s not home too often. but she likes to take advantage of her days off to hang out around the house. she’s also up most hours of the night, so she gets to enjoy her space then. since her fight with carrow, she’s been avoiding leaving too often, and has become a bit of a homebody.
- what is the view outside of your muse’s window?
the street outside tbh, nothing special
- what do they sleep on? do they have a lot of pillows? what about blankets or stuffed animals?
marlene’s got two pillows, and is definitely a top sheet kind of person. she’ll throw an extra blanket on if she gets cold, but she definitely just keeps the sheet most of the night. although, she very rarely actually sleeps, so many nights you can find her waking up on the couch, or even taking a nap standing up.
- what items do they keep next to their bed?
her phone, a glass of water from three days ago, the alcohol choice of the week (she’s fine she promises), a pack of cigarettes/lighter (she’s trying to quit but), and a table lamp.
- what is your muse’s most valuable possession?
two photos. one of her family, smiling, untouched by war and the darkness that would follow them. one of her friends, layed across each other on a couch in the common room, all of them laughing and shoving for room, being the kids they were always meant to be.
- does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
marlene’s pretty in between. she definitely doesn’t like a home to feel unlived in. she likes putting her personality into everything. she isn’t one for just like more geeky clutter, but you can definitely find her collecting things from goodwill that remind her of home, of her time. so, actually nevermind, yes. there’s a lot of trinkets.
- does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
photos of her friends, her family, some band posters or records she’s tried to keep up. she’s got tapestries and just different wall decor around. but any photos she has are of her and her sisters, her parents, her and her friends, her and sirius. just her family happy. they deserve that, even if it’s just in photos.
- what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
honestly i can see marlene trying to get like a disco ball up, definitely has those beaded curtains in doorways, really overly plush carpets. but a lot of her things just stay packed up or in bags on the ground. she still has a hard time remembering that she’s safe, that there is a reason to decorate because it’s her home. it’s not going anywhere, and neither is she.
- does your muse like having guests over?
yeah absolutely. honestly marlene loves having her family and friends over, despite the mess, she loves bringing them around. lily is practically a constant in the house, and she can’t wait to let her home be just a revolving door of her friends and family. there’s plenty of room, so please, come hang out.
- how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
it’s terrible. she and sirius just suck at cleaning. but listen, if one room is a mess, they can just hang out in a different one. out of sight out of mind.
- does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
maybe one day she would like to get a pet, but she can barely take care of herself let alone an animal. as for plants, any plant you see in her house is either dead, or fake. she was absolute trash at herbology.
- is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
one hundred percent. she really couldn’t be happier right now
This is SO STUPID but Yuri literally still lives in a hotel room even though he’s been in this city for nearly five months. Here’s the thing: he came here temporarily, to train, which is why his coach originally booked the hotel room for him-- and if he rents himself an apartment, that would be like admitting he’s stuck here for the long haul. And Yuri is far too stubborn for that. So instead, he’s still living out of the hotel room he originally was meant to stay in for just a few short weeks. It’s whatever. Eventually he’s going to run out of money, probably, so he really does need to move. But paying for this is what his athletic sponsorships are for.
The nice thing about the hotel room is that a) he can take advantage of the free breakfast in the morning and b) someone washes his towels and vacuums his room every few days, so it’s actually way cleaner than his room would be normally. Everyone at the front desk knows him by now, too, so that’s... sort of nice. There’s a laundry room in the basement that he’s allowed to use, so he doesn’t have to go far to wash his clothes. Most importantly, the hotel allows pets, so his cat’s been able to stay with him all this while. He worries about her getting too cooped-up so he does take her outside on leashed walks on occasion. And the messiest parts of his room are the cat toys and the litter box in the corner of the bathroom.
Yuri doesn’t spend a whole ton of time in the room other than to sleep at night, and to pop back in just after lunch to visit Potya. But the tv’s got decent premium channels for free, so he doesn’t mind staying in and watching movies if he’s awake enough. If he glances out his window, he’d see one of the busy downtown streets; but he doesn’t usually keep the curtains open when he’s actually in his room, so the view doesn’t matter.
He’s pulled out all of the extra pillows in the closet and does like to sleep with a lot of blankets. Potya sleeps curled up next to him, so he doesn’t need stuffed animals. He doesn’t own the wall space, so the decor is just the standard hotel room fare, but he has collected quite a few souvenirs from around the city that litter the top of his desk. He keeps his athletic bag with all of his figure skating and ballet gear on the desk chair, always there and ready to go.
His living situation is... adequate. That’s about as positively as he’d describe it. But it’s not awful! Could be worse.

where does your muse live? a house? apartment? how big is the space?
He lives in an apartment in a town house that was made into two separate apartments. It’s enough space but not too much. Cozy and comfortable.
does your muse live with anyone else? who are those people?
Antonin lives alone
how much time does your muse spend in their place? do they go out often or spend a lot of time in?
Antonin loves being in his apartment. It’s nice and calm. He made it as peaceful and the opposite of his extravagant home in russia. But he does spend a lot of time in his bookshop.
what is the view outside of your muse’s window?
Just the street, the park a little way down the road.
what do they sleep on? do they have a lot of pillows? what about blankets or stuffed animals?
His bed is very simple. He has a thin blanket because he runs hot but he has a duvet just in case he feels cold. Four pillows.
what items do they keep next to their bed?
Phone. Books and his wand.
what is your muse’s most valuable possession?
A photo of his family.
does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
He has mostly books. So it can’t really be minimalistic.
does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
He has photos up of his family.
what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
Books. Lamps and a few paintings.
does your muse like having guests over?
Occasionally depends on who it is.
how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
Very. He likes things to be clean.
does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
Quite a few plants he likes the vibe they give off. He feeds the birds outside his window.
is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
where does your muse live? a house? apartment? how big is the space?
Severus lives in a two-floor apartment above his bookstore in Georgetown. It’s similar in size to the house he grew up in, but he does have use of the basement below the shop as well. It’s certainly bigger than his quarters at Hogwarts.
does your muse live with anyone else? who are those people?
Severus lives alone, though Eileen did live with him for the first few months after she arrived in the city. He’s never been sociable so living alone suits him just fine at the moment.
how much time does your muse spend in their place? do they go out often or spend a lot of time in?
Given that he works on the ground floor of the building, he does spend a large portion of his time there. He’ll occasionally go out for the day or in the evenings. If the day’s nice he’ll often go to the park across the street.
what is the view outside of your muse’s window?
He lives on M street so most of the view out of his window is of traffic on the street below. But on the opposite side of the street is the Francis Scott Key Memorial Park, so that part of the view is pleasant. To be honest, he’d take any view over the desolate street he grew up in or the windowless rooms he had at Hogwarts.
what do they sleep on? do they have a lot of pillows? what about blankets or stuffed animals?
Severus sleeps on a double bed with a duvet. There’s only two pillows but he does have several blankets that are often left in a heap at the foot of the bed.
what items do they keep next to their bed?
He always keeps his phone and his wand on the bedside table, as well as a few candles.
what is your muse’s most valuable possession?
Severus’ most valuable possession - or possessions - is his record collection. It’s not quite at the standard that it used to be before he ended up in Washington, but it’s not far off. Music’s always been a big part of his life, so it was important to him that he had his collection back. If he’s in his apartment chances are that he has something spinning on his turntable.
does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
He doesn’t keep a lot of trinkets around. He has the odd piece that he’s picked up over time, but his space is more filled with clutter than anything else. There’s also several ashtrays dotted about the place.
does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
Severus doesn’t have any photos lying around, but he does have some framed prints of posters from concerts that he’s been to. His favourites are the pair of prints he bought when he saw Nine Inch Nails a few months after he arrived in Washington.
what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
He has a lot of candles lying about the place. Some of them are scented, but most of them are plain pillar candles. The second bedroom in the apartment has been converted into a study, so the shelves in there are full of his personal book collection.
does your muse like having guests over?
It depends on who the guest is. There’s a few people in his life, a grand total of four, that he doesn’t mind having over to the apartment, but on a whole he doesn’t enjoy hosting people.
how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
He tries to keep the place tidy but he rarely succeeds. Books, records, journals and papers litter the place and he does have a habit of piling his clothes on a chair in his bedroom. It’s not that he hates tidying up, it’s more so that he gets distracted by whatever project he’s working on and just forgets. Cleaning is one of the few things that he refuses to do the muggle way.
does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
Severus has a few plants that sit on the window sill, all of which are muggle plants that have uses in potions. He doesn’t have any pets, but he has entertained the idea of getting a dog more than once, not that it’s likely to ever happen.
is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
On a whole Severus is happy with his living situation. It’s not somewhere he’d intend on staying forever, perhaps in time he’d move into a proper house in a quieter part of the city as even with charms in place the noise from the street tends to bleed through.
welcome to hiddenwashington cribs ; haruka tenoh edition
where does your muse live? a house? apartment? how big is the space?
haruka lives in an apartment complex in downtown dc, where she has a room on one of the top floors. it has really big windows that she likes, giving a view of the skyline and nice views at night of the skyline and the stars. her place is decently sized for one person, though it seems bigger because of how minimally she’s decorated it.
does your muse live with anyone else? who are those people?
haruka lives by herself, which is really the only option she would even consider. the only other person she’d even think about living with is michiru, and if it didn’t seem like a bad idea, she probably would’ve already suggested that they simply live together considering the amount of time that they’re with one another.
how much time does your muse spend in their place? do they go out often or spend a lot of time in?
it can go both ways tbh. her job is sporadic, as there’s not really an 8-5 job that comes with being a stunt driver or sailor guardian for that matter. certain weeks she’ll be there a lot, other weeks she’ll only be there to catch up on a few hours of sleep and that’s it.
what is the view outside of your muse’s window?
the skyline - that’s mainly the reason she chose this apartment at this location, as she wanted to still feel some sort of connection to the sky and be able to see out as much as possible.
what do they sleep on? do they have a lot of pillows? what about blankets or stuffed animals?
her bedroom has a queen size bed, and it’s all put together in a very average sense. there’s a normal amount of blankets and pillows, and nothing that’s out of the ordinary. she’s more of someone who sleeps with a sheet than a blanket, but it’s still always on the bed.
what items do they keep next to their bed?
a book, a glass of water, a lamp, and probably her lip rod
does your muse like to keep a lot of trinkets around or are they more minimalistic?
haruka is extremely minimal in the way that she decorates. if someone does come to her apartment, it would almost appear that it’s for showing and not as if anyone actually lives there because of how simplistic and minimally it’s set up
does your muse have any pictures up? what are they of?
she doesn’t keep any photographs up, but she does have a few paintings hung in her living area
what, if any, other decorations does your muse have?
not a lot tbh. apart from the paintings, there’s a few potted plants (though they are fake, as she doesn’t think she’d be able to keep up with watering live ones and making sure that they don’t die on her) and some nicer lamps or furniture, but that’s it. it feels a little silly for her to decorate, as she’s half-expecting them to get pulled back home still. more than that, there’s still the reminder of what might occur in the future with the talismans, and she’s not sure if she would want to decorate and create something that she’ll grow attached to.
does your muse like having guests over?
it truly depends on who it is tbh - and considering she keeps to herself mostly apart from michiru, the answer is typically no. unless you’re michiru, you’re probably not allowed inside.
how tidy is your muse’s home/room?
extremely tidy. even when she’s around her apartment more often, it still remains very clean. the most disarray it might get into is the off chance that she doesn’t make her bed once again after getting up
does your muse have any pets living with them? what about plants?
no pets, and no living plants.
is your muse happy with their living situation? what would your muse’s dream house look like?
for the most part, yes. there’s some elements in her apartment that assuage the feeling of homesickness she’ll get some times, and it is a decently set up location that it’s enjoyable to spend time in.
