Correct in every detail and powered by a Jaguar 3442cc engine to Jaguar C type specification. The 1954 Australian Grand Prix was held at the Southport Road Circuit near Southport, in Queensland. It was the nineteenth Australian Grand Prix and the second to be held in Queensland. With no suitable permanent circuit available, a course was mapped out on roads in sparsely settled coastal land 2.5 km south west of Southport. The race was opened to single seater race cars and stripped Sportscars and had 28 starters. The race was was the first Australian Grand Prix win for Australian driver, Lex Davison, who would go on to be the most successful driver in the history of the Australian Grand Prix. Davison drove a Formula 2 HWM re-engined with a 3.4 litre Jaguar engine. He finished a lap ahead of second place driver Curley Brydon and two laps ahead of third place Ken Richardson. Founded by racers George Abecassis and John Heath after the war Hersham and Walton Motors was Britain's top racing team in the early 1950s although most of the racing was done abroad.
