“thanks for coming with me, dee.” anne-louise said over her shoulder, sifting through the clothing racks at thrifthaven. “the charity luncheon is this weekend and i still have yet to find something to wear!” the attire, from the invitation she received earlier that week, was supposed to be country club appropriate. annie-lou had no idea what that meant, and from what she saw online, nothing in her closet would fit the bill. she often made her own clothing, but she rarely had time between working at the elementary school and working at the bar for such an undertaking in a short amount of time. so, that left her with no other choice than to go shopping, but even that had a caveat: secondhand was best, and fast fashion was absolutely the last choice. enter thrifthaven, one of her favorite places in town. that meant she was hoping for a miracle. she hated to shop alone, though, and she figured dee would have more experience with charity events as a doctor. “what exactly constitutes as country club appropriate? absolutely no personality allowed, must fit in and not stand out in any way?” anne-louise remarked, a touch bitterly. she had spent her youth desperate to fit in, but had no other choice than embracing her differences. either she leaned into her unconventional upbringing and eclectic tastes, or she’d have gone crazy.
