We had our first (and hopefully last) hurricane of the 2024 season. Debby crept by just to the east of us. While we were spared the worst of the winds, we did get a few strong gusts that knocked branches out of nearby trees and took out our power. Big storms like this fascinate me. A part of me loves the sound of the rain falling and the wind whistling through the tree branches. But the other part of me knows that hurricanes are no joke. I've ridden out quite a few over the years. I've seen the damage they cause, the trees knocked over onto cars and houses, the flooding, being without power for weeks at a time, and the slow rebuilding.I caught this bit of video as the first outer band passed over. It was no worse than the average tropical storm, a steady wind with gusts of around 30 or 40 miles per hour. The rain would pick up and slow down, but it was incessant. I think it rained for a solid twelve hours here. My rain gauge, which goes up to five inches, was overflowing. Now it's time to dry out, clean up the debris, and get ready for the next one.RB
