When Hunk finally gets development
I think the reason Hunk gets so little development is that he’s not worried about home like Lance is. He was, but then he went to the Balmera. I recently rewatched the Balmera episodes, and Hunk’s resolve in those episodes becomes ironclad. He decides then and there that he will not rest until the universe is free of Zarkon’s empire. Before that, he had no motive for being in space. He has no lost family (I mean, he IS the lost family tbh), no mysterious past, no deep rooted psychological issues that he hides under a mask of sunshine, no PTSD because of the Galra, no tragic back story. Hunk is Hunk. I think writers have a hard time writing such a neutrally based character because his only stimulus is his own passion. The only reason he’s still in space is because he decided to stay and help. Everyone is saying Hunk has no development, but he was developed in the first season. He sees injustice, and he does what he can to stop it.
Hunk could use more development, definitely. But stop calling him a flat character, or comic relief, when he obviously isn’t.
