I was checking my e-mails and found this news on the homepage: "NASA-scientists discover planet most similar to earth so far."
My instant thought was: “Oh, great now they’re probably gonna flip out again about whether or not it would be possible for mankind to live up there or something.“ - I’m not against humanity trying to know what’s going on around them in space, do have a look if you’re curious. But I dislike this search for a planet similar to ours when combined with the “we might live up there”-thought. The reason for that is that this triggers anger inside of me, because mankind is too stupid to preserve their own planet and instead destroys it more and more. Humans are the only animals I know which are stupid enough to do such a thing as to destroy their own living environment and the worst part is that we drag other species who also live here with us towards extinction.
So we are too dumb to live here on earth already and then we think about colonizing or moving to another planet, where we’re probably do the same shit we did to earth all over again? Ugh... Couldn’t we be intelligent for once and try to stop ourselves from destroying what we have instead first? Wouldn’t that be more useful? My point of view might be too naive, seeing as I know that humanity isn’t willing or capable to change their preferences over night. But on the other hand I’m so fed up with this whole “but profit is more important than our environment and you won’t live to see the consequences anyway”-way of thinking I sometimes just want to slap each and every person who has the political power to enforce laws that might change the situation but doesn’t do it due to economy or whatever they come up with to prevent this from happening. Oh yeah, your fucking money will save your ass if all of us end up poisoned or die of thirst due to desertification or simply can’t breathe anymore because we finally wiped out the last bit of the rain forest or something. (I know my arguments lack scientifically logical explanations, and the I’m just more or less summarizing here.)
Whatever... tl;dr: Instead of looking for new earth-like planets to explore, how about saving the one we’re all living on first? Because otherwise we have no right to even so much as set foot elsewhere.
I believe that humanity and people are stupid. Humanity is going to kill themselves, just watch the little things that happen.
