Mephisto was feeling like he was at the end of his rope. He and Praxina just got back from Ephedia after Gramorr had “explained” to them what sort of failures they were. Again. His ribs hurt as if an Earth version of Rhino had repeatedly slammed into them. This time there was a bruise on his cheek as well. But it was nothing compared to Praxina.
He tried to comfort his sister with his usual jabs and stupid remarks but this time all he got in return were hisses and even more belittling. She really took personally that last defeat. Usually their boss would go easy on Praxina, his favourite student but not this time. It caused her to be extra prickly. And he felt like he needed a little bit of comfort.
He couldn’t go to Iris, he didn’t trust her that much and her pity would sting him more than any spell blast Praxina would cast on him if she found out.
There were also questions which he had about what he saw on that other Ephedia. The mirror Ephedia Praxina called it when they reported to Gramorr. Questions generally needed answers and the only place he he probably could get them was Hugo, the Not-His-Father... Problem was Mephisto wasn’t sure how to find him.
After a whole day of search, looking into every possible and impossible nook and cranny, Mephisto returned home, sore and completely bummed down.
“Why do you look like when someone steals your dessert?” Praxina glared at him from her corner, covering her yellowing bruises with make-up.
“I was looking for something,” he grumbled flopping down on his designated corner of the cave.
“Why didn’t you use the scrying mirror?” She asked completely baffled by his stupidity. They had magic for a reason.
Mephisto blinked that point dawning on him. He even made a surprised ‘o’ face, making Praxina huff, rolling her eyes and shaking her head as she went back to perfecting contouring. Her brother meanwhile brought up a small scrying mirror, and flipped through it looking for Hugo.
“Aha!” he shouted triumphantly getting up on his legs, then hissing and folding in two when his ribs and other various bruises reminded him about themselves. “I’ll be later.” he hissed out to his sister and teleported away. He landed seconds later on a balcony of Hugo’s apartment, knocking down on window to be let in, face smooshed against the glass.
