How do you shelve your books? Alphabetically? By genre? Height? Something else?
I don’t shelve many of them. I stack them. The bookcases in my house are used by others.
If you could have one character’s prop or article of clothing, what would it be?
I’d love a wand from Harry Potter.
Do you write? If so, what are you currently working on?
I do. I’m always working on multiple things. This year I really want to finish a first draft of a novel I’ve been working/not working on for way too long. Some short stories too.
What’s your least favorite book-to-film(-or-TV) adaptation?
The Giver. It should have never been made into a movie, and I wish Lois Lowry never gave the rights away. The main problem is that it is a very “internal” book. It’s about things going on inside Jonah---feelings, sensations, understandings---and the concept of the book does not translate well to film. It lost the point. Never should have been touched. But I feel like we’re in a time where any book is being made into a film. Some books are meant to just be books.
Favorite animal companion in a book?
The dogs in Where the Red Fern Grows.
Have you ever judged a book by its cover?
Yes, but not in a bad way. Some covers have made me read the book.
Have you DNF’d (not finished) anything this year so far?
It’s only February. LOL. But I haven’t thrown away a piece of work yet.
First person or third person?
Depends on the story. Some stories need to be told in first-person. I actually prefer short stories in first-person. But overall, third-person. I like to be able to dive into the minds other characters.
How many books do you own?
I honestly have no clue. A lot.
How do you feel about unreliable narrators?
Used correctly, they can be a lot of fun, like in Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart. Or they can be used horribly, like in The Great Gatsby (IMO). There has to be a reason the story is told from this character’s POV. It works really well with mysteries and suspense.
Name a book you’ve wanted to read for years but haven’t yet.
I really want to read Jane Eyre. I love the story, and was supposed to read it back in HS, but didn’t.
What book would like to see adapted to screen?
Non-Fiction or Fiction?
Favorite villain from a book.
Favorite underrated character in a book.
What was the last book you read, and did you like it?
Is there a book you really love that you feel no one, or very few people like?
What’s the longest book you’ve ever read?
What was your favorite book/series growing up?
Burning books is wrong, so what book would you toss into the ocean, never to return?
Is there a famous book couple you think is overrated?
If you write, what is your favorite genre to write in?
