How to Change LPU Connection Mode Stack to MPU Connection Mode Stack
This case mainly talks about how to change LPU connection mode stack to MPU connection mode stack on the CE12800.
Problem
Based on the connection mode of the stack management link, the connection modes of stack members are classified into the following types:
MPU connection mode: also called out-of-band stacking. In this mode, stack management links are connected through dedicated SIP interfaces on MPUs to isolate management links from forwarding links, improving reliability. As shown in the following figure, the stack management link is the SIP port on the MPU, and the data forwarding link is the service port added to the stack port.
LPU connection mode: This mode is also called in-band stacking. In this mode, service ports are directly added to stack-ports through stack management links, and data forwarding links are integrated. Dedicated ports on MPUs are not required, simplifying network deployment and maintenance. As shown in the following figure, the management link and data forwarding link are service interfaces added to the stack port.
The reliability and service continuity of MPU connection mode stack are much higher than those of LPU connection mode stack. How to change LPU connection mode stack to MPU connection mode stack?
Solution
Resolution Summary
Change the stack mode to MPU connection mode stack, connect cables to SIP ports on MPUs, save the configuration, and restart the switch.
Resolution Details
1. Run the "undo stack member 1 link-type linecard-direct" and "undo stack member 2 link-type linecard-direct" command in the stack view to delete the LPU connection mode stack configuration.
2. Run the "display dual-active" command to query the stack DAD detection interface. If the stack DAD detection is configured, delete the interface. Enter the DAD detection interface view and run the "undo dual-active detect mode direct" command.
interface Stack-Port1/1
undo dual-active detect mode direct
interface Stack-Port2/1
undo dual-active detect mode direct
3. Connect the SIP ports of the two control boards according to the following figure. Assume that the control boards are 1/9 and 2/9.
Connecting the interface Sip1/9/0/0 to the interface Sip2/9/0/0
Connecting the interface Sip1/9/0/1 to the interface Sip2/10/0/0
Connecting the interface Sip1/10/0/0 to the interface Sip2/9/0/1
Connecting the interface Sip1/10/0/1 to the interface Sip2/10/0/1
If a network cable is used, use the port in the red box in the following figure. If an optical port is used, use the port in the blue box in the following figure.
4. Save the current configuration file and reboot the system.
This is the case of changing stack mode, hope it is of help to you.
How to do if the optical interfaces connected by a fiber cannot be Up
Issue Description
How to do if the optical interfaces on Switches connected by a fiber cannot be Up
Solution
"Before checking a link, check whether the LINK indicator of the interface is on. If the indicator is on, the physical link is normal. Perform the following steps:
1.Check whether either of the interfaces is shut down. If an interface is shut down, run the undo shutdown command on it.
2.If the shutdown command is not used, check whether either of the two connected optical interfaces is the combo interface. If yes, run the display this interface command to check whether the interface is FORCE FIBER. If not, run the combo-port fiber command to change the interface to the forcible optical interface.
[HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] display this interface
......
Port Mode: FORCE FIBER
Speed : 1000, Loopback: NONE
Duplex: FULL, Negotiation: ENABLE
Mdi : NORMAL
......
3.If the two interfaces are both optical interfaces but cannot be Up, it is possible that one interface is an FE interface and the other is a GE interface. In this case, you need to disable auto-negotiation on the GE interface, set the operation mode of the GE interface to 100 Mbit/s, and set the duplex mode to full duplex. Check whether the interfaces become Up. If they are still Down, contact Huawei technical support engineers.
4.If the two interfaces are both GE interfaces, check whether the auto-negotiation status, rates, and duplex modes on the two interfaces are the same. If they are different, set them to be the same.
5.If the interfaces are still Down, ensure that input optical power on each interface is within the receiver sensibility of the interface.
6.If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers.
NOTE:
The status of a physical interface is not affected by the service configuration."
Clear password for console user from BootROM for devices with 2 MPU boards
Issue Description
Customer have Huawei Quidway S7712 switch. Customer cannot login by console to the device as password was lost, and need reset it from BootRom. After login the BootRom menu during device startup and clearing password for console user, password do not clearing
Handling Process
S7712 switch running v200r010c00spc600.Operation steps that we checked during troubleshooting:
Reboot the device (by power)Login the device BootRom (CTRL+B during boot) , default password [email protected]
Press Ctrl+B to enter BootLoad menu : 3 2 1 Password: The default password is used now. Change the password. BootLoad Menu
1. Boot with default mode 2. Enter ethernet submenu 3. Modify Flash description area 4. File system submenu 5. Enter password submenu 6. Clear password for console user 7. Reboot
Enter your choice(1-7): 6 Note: Clear password for console user? Yes or No(Y/N): y Clear password for console user successfully. Note: Choose "1. Boot with default mode" to boot, then set a new password
BootLoad Menu
1. Boot with default mode 2. Enter ethernet submenu 3. Modify Flash description area 4. File system submenu 5. Enter password submenu 6. Clear password for console user 7. Reboot
Enter your choice(1-7): 1 Startup information : 1
Then device boot up, but the password for console user did not changed, and default password for console connection did not works: Authentication fail
Then we clarifying with the customer that S7712 switch have 2 MPU modules installed. For this issue, when we connect by console to one MPU and clear password for console user before system boot up with use saved config, at second MPU this password will not changed, and during booting up, MPUs compare the config and use saved one in current config file. That is why clearing password for console user from boot rom does not take action.
Root Cause
When 2 MPU installed to a switch, clearing password for console user from BootRom menu will not trigger clearing password for console user at config file kept at second MPU, and during boot up MPUs will synchronize their startup config files, and use old one.
Solution
Remove one MPU slot from the S7712 and keep second one inside the chassis, Then reboot the switch, and do same steps for clearing the password for console connection from BootRom.After switch boot up, set proper password for console user, and save config. Then install second MPU board, and save the config to allow MPUs synchronize their configs.
Suggestions
During clearing password for console user from BootRom menu for devices which have 2 MPU boards, need remove one MPU board during this password reset.
