Not to epic of Gilgamesh heated rivalry post on main but I’ve been obsessed with The Vampire Marleau Extended Universe and as your local history undergrad with a focus on Mesopotamia (and human sexuality but that’s a whole other thing) I wanna weigh in because it’s been Consuming Me
Ok so first question. Who do we think out of Ilya and Shane is Enkidu and Gilgamesh. My current thoughts is Shane being Enkidu on account of his Mysterious Powers lending themselves well to the whole created by the gods divine man ment to stop Gilgamesh thing of Enkidu. Also that puts a fun connection to the whole Rose of it all with Shamhat where Gilgamesh sets them up (intentionally with Gilgamesh or unintentionally with Ilya) only for Enkidu/Shane to be convinced by Shamhat to face Gilgamesh (in combat or to go Get His Man) I mean, also Gilgamesh is kinda a whore (affectionate) which Ilya also is (also affectionate)
I mean Ilya would definitely cling to Shane’s corpse until a maggot drops from his nose too tbh
Anyways idk how Marleau The Immortal Warrior fits into it but this was a fun thought exercise. I hope you all forgive my insane ramblings.
you know, considering how ancient the vampire marleau truly is, i don’t think we’re giving him nearly enough credit for how well he’s adapted to the modern world. sure he has his slip ups, but nobody’s perfect
casting ilya as patroclus is actually the only possible scenario to me. we're talking about patroclus who's been estranged and exiled by his father for a single mistake. patroclus who's forced to leave his home and country. motherless patroclus. patroclus who dies first. who spends his life gravitating around living legend achilles (the fastest and brightest hero among all greeks). patroclus who's well liked by his peers and almost the best in skill within his own army—second only to his lover.

during his time with the myrmidons cliff and patroclus (ilya) used to play dice and drink sweet sweet nectar. then everything changed when achilles (shane) refused to go into battle and ilya had to wear his lover's armor and die tragically. that's when cliff swore he would never leave his side again in the next two thousand lifetimes
