Percy and Harry Childhood Friends AU
Ok so what if at age 5, Harry makes a wish to have a friend/someone who understands him and it works. How? Idk, up to you, magic is weird plus we’re adding deity shenanigans in this so there are many ways you can take it. Reasons aside, young Percy and Harry have a mind link that they can talk through.
The UK is 5 hours ahead of the East US, where Percy is so things are a bit wonky. This will absolutely NOT be good for their sleep schedules either with the other likely staying up late for their time or getting up early just so they can talk. Maybe the “dreams” are funky too. Like if one is asleep while the other is awake, instead of a normal dream they see what the awake person is going through. Or maybe they have dream sharing. Dealers choice really.
But they know that the other is in a not so good home situation and therefore are emotional and mental support for the other. So they learn how to talk through the mind link and how to optimize it. Don’t have the words? Send the emotions/image bundle that reps what you want to say instead. The background mental chatter probably helps Percy focus during school since I know that background noise/distractions can help ADHDers focus.
This meshing culminates with further distrust of the Dursleys for Harry and Gabe for Percy as they would excitedly tell them about this “amazing new friend” that they made and that would not go over well. They assume that their connection is normal and are confused when other kids don’t have it. They eventually stop talking about it with others. But they do bring it up again when they are brought into their respective magic/godly groups.
The brain link could lead to some hilarious situations. Like Percy being abnormally calm when seeing the Fury and Minotaur because he’s already been introduced to magic and magical creatures from Harry. Snape being absolutely bested from Harry’s mind because of the mental expertise that talking with Percy has given him. Random gifts sent from the sea to Harry or by owl to Percy and the outside people having concerns. Or maybe they make concerning comments and don’t realize how concerning it is because it’s the norm between them.
Ultimately, when the Golden Trio is on the run from everyone, Harry has the bright idea to teleport to the camp. Like someone who doesn’t think his ideas through, he gives Percy a heads up and then BOOM, the Golden Trio is in Camp Half-Blood. There’s confusion and tension on both sides since instincts and history says that strangers are dangerous. The confusion intensifies when Percy runs and tackle hugs Harry. Then meet and greets happen and whatnot.
Maybe this is what leads to the demigods volunteering to help fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. They regularly train to deal with fights to the death and whatnot. Idk I think it would be cool for the Demigods to just pop up to fight and the wizards being confused. Percy just hopping in the water and talking with the squid. The wizards being horrified that all of the children can see thestrals and have absolutely no problems interacting with what most wizards would be terrified of. Children in armor. Percy just chatting with thestrals like it’s nothing. Just a lot of things that wizards would find terrifying and concerning from these kids. Harry popping up in armor maybe fighting with both magic and weapons.
