haikyuu chapter 387
everything makes sense now.
imagine, you grow up and this deep connection and love for volleyball begins to form. you associate the sport with a loved one you hold dear, who builds you up, supports you, and trains you to put your all into the sport. how would you then feel if you saw all your teammates not caring about that sport? kageyama associates volleyball and winning in volleyball with his grandfather and making him proud. when he sees his teammates not giving it their all, he’s not offened because that takes away the win. he’s offened because he sees it as them disrespecting the person who was most important to him. it hurts that no one cares as much as him and it’s incredibly frustrating all on its own, not even adding the emotions running wild from his loss.
kageyama was desperately looking for someone who was going to fill the void left from loosing his grandfather. he was looking for someone, anyone who cared about volleyball as much as he did and who would help him and respect him like his grandfather once had. and who did young kageyama look up to? oikawa. kageyama thought that oikawa was the one, that he was the “somebody” his grandfather was talking about. the person who could make him whole again. and he rejected him. oikawa whole heartedly rejected kageyama and god i cannot imagine how much that hurt on top of everything else.
he’s lost his grandfather, is fed up with his teammates, and is rejected by someone he thought would make him happy again. of course kageyama snapped. and what did that get him...full rejection from his team.
this boy has been through so much and everyone always just pushes him off as moody and bossy and standoffish. he was alone. he was lost....and thankfully, hinata found him. kageyama has grown incredibly throughout the series and to see him standing where he is now, happy, and successful and with his real person (hinata) is the best feeling. he is deserving of all of the love imaginable and im glad to call him my favorite character.
