The purpose of tags is to make it easy to find all the posts relevant to a particular subject. Everyone using the same tags means we can find each others' work easily and look at a specific week or kind of post without having to scroll through the entire blog, which can get annoying.

On each post, tag with your name. This can obviously be stylized however you like-- I prefer to use my initials, so I've just been tagging my posts "lw"-- but keep it consistent, recognizable as you, and distinct from the tags other people are using for their names, so that it's possible to view all the posts from one and only one person.

Every post should have three additional tags, for the week (eg "week 2"), the type of assignment ("wreading response" or "writing assignment"), and the name of the assignment ("wreading response week 3"). This is because the tags cannot be searched in combination: that is, there is no way to view all the posts that are tagged both "week 2" and "wreading response", only either all "week 2" posts or all "wreading response" posts. By having a distinct tag for that week's assignments, it's possible to see only the Week 2 reading responses.

Your tags on a Week 3 reading response post, therefore, might look something like this:

#week 3 #wreading response #wreading response week 3 #lw (Note-- I’m making the decision for the moment to just use #[assignment type + week number] as the assignment “name”, since not all of them have names on the syllabus.)

Standardized tag phrasing is important if we want them to actually function as an index; tagging your post "#week 3 writing assignment" instead of "#writing assignment week 3" will NOT put them under the same tag, and will instead strand your post in a lonely purgatory of its very own. Fortunately, tags can be removed or added even after the post is posted by editing the post, so it’s easy to change tags if you want to. (If you don't know or don't remember how to edit tumblr posts, which is admittedly slightly confusing, send me an email.)

In addition to the standardized tags above, you are obviously free to add any additional tags you think are relevant, e.g. "#cecilia vicuña" or "#poetry" or "#garbage".
