Cute Hover Scooter
The result of today’s stream. There’s a story to this one. I was making thumbs and just not feeling it. I decided that I’d do one more thumb before giving up entirely for the day... And I fell in love with it. There’s nothing in life more satisfying than falling in love with the last thumbnail sketch in a series. It’s like everything you’ve done trying to design that object or character culminates in a grand epiphany that brings the best of all the previous iterations together in a manner that makes you think: “Damn. It wasn’t all for nothing.”
You don’t really get that when you nail it somewhere in the middle or somewhere towards the beginning.

I needed a hover scooter for the main character to drive. She’s not exactly youthful, but she drives this scooter around, in part, to forget the fact that she’s aging. I like to think she’d pick something cute and compact that she can park right outside of her apartment door. Most of the time, she’s using it to get to jobs, and every now and then she gets into the occasional chase. Though, what she expects to do once she catches up is anyone’s guess.
This thing is powered by electricity and magic. Yes, you read that right.
The reason I elected to go with a hover scooter for the main character as opposed to a car is because it’s easier to convey body language without having to establish what’s going on outside of the vehicle. You can get both pieces of information immediately.
Most importantly, I don’t have to deal with wheels!
Don’t you judge me.

Thumbnails! I've been neglecting this important part of the design process in quite a number of my work and I think I'm paying the price. Anyway I'm trying to get back into the swing of things with this one. This style is closer to what I do at work. Also, this is my rather weak attempt at creating a female character, being weak at anatomy and all. I really do wonder if I'll ever hit a breakthrough any time soon. Nights like these, you tend to question the meaning of it all and where you're headed..
