It took a while to bond but it was worth it! It was great to have a place to come home to and to have a family to decompress with at the end of the day.

And it was a relief for my mother, too. Across the world, she knew I was in a home filled with love and friendship. If I was sick, I had someone to care for me. If I was upset, I had a mother to comfort me. Nothing could mean more.

And we paid the love back - when my siblings came over to the US, Mom opened her arms and heart to them as well.

My mother and I went to see Ama-la this weekend. It was their first time meeting each other.

While there are some cross-cultural and language barriers, their bond was unshakable.
