Ryou winced as his table was marked by her knife, but he drew a bit closer incase sheâd injured herself. She didnât always pay close attention to those things.. âAh, yes, I did..â He responded, still unsure of what she was about to say. [[hostâofthering]]

Hearing the affirmation that Ryou had actually just asked her out, she was lost for words for a moment. Breathing out a simple âOhâŚâ she took a step closer to him, trying to gather her thoughts and figure out if this was some cruel joke, that thought she quickly dismissed. This was Ryou, she was the cruel one, not him. âYou didnât hit your head earlier did you?â she couldnât stop herself asking.Â

âIâve been wanting to ask you this for a long timeâŚwill you be my girlfriend?â Ryouâs face flamed bright red right at that moment and he semi-regretted saying the words. Surely sheâd mock him for his actions? Nonetheless he remained firm at his usual spot by the kitchen counter. [[hostâofthering]

Bakuraâs hand slipped and the knife sheâd been playing with ended up stabbed into the table. She didnât even care that she almost stabbed herself, her gaze was fixed on Ryou now. âDid you justâŚâ She trailed off, barely believing what she heard. Pushing up from her seat, taking a few steps over to him. âDid you just⌠ask me out?â

âIt was merely..â Ryou reprimanded himself for leaning in to the touch, it wasnât friendly or amicable. â..a thought.â He finished, pulling himself free and continued with his cakes. It was better than he busy himself with them, for although he didnât fear the spirit of the ring; he knew better than to anger him.
With his back now to his darker half, he felt a sense of foreboding. He tried not to allow himself to be pulled into Bakuraâs word games. For he knew how hurtful they could be, but he couldnât stop himself. âIâm not the one who is distracted, Spirit. You always act like this, pushing others away, using me for your games yet Iâm sure underneath it all you must be terribly lonely.â
He glanced at Bakura at that, knowing the Spirit would be most likely angered by Ryouâs act of defiance. It was always best to play along with the Spiritâs games, not agitate him further.
Ryou struck a nerve and the Spirit glowered at the nearby wall, "Lonely?" He clicked his tongue with such venom he might as well be spitting it. Â "That state of mind and emotion only refers to mortal beings like yourself. Â Creatures that yearn for touch and connection, so they can feel wholesome." His angry gaze shifted back towards Ryou's hunched posture. Â His hands softly squeezing the bag as he continued to pipe icing onto this pastries.Â
"Isn't that what you do? Â Is chiding me a way for you to dismiss your own actions?" Â He circled around the kitchen island and leaned forward, his metal cuffs clunking against the tabletop, "I hate that smiling face of yours when you talk to me. Â What do you want?"
Ryou is curled on the sofa in his pjamas, one arm hanging from the sofa holding his handheld console. He looked to be fast asleep, stray pieces of white hair fallen across his face. ((host--ofthering))
It took all Bakuraâs restraint not to throw the door open nor slam it behind her as she entered their home, night work was always a pain but as Ryou kept reminding her. Breaking the door would only add more issues. Not bothering to call out a greeting she dropped her coat and bag in the hall and made for the living room, ready to collapse on the sofa for a while. She paused as her gaze fell on Ryou, a malicious part of her wanted to wake him up, maybe even try and scare him but as she drew closer the part that adored him won out and she could only smile gently; unable to bring herself to disturb him. Kneeling down beside him she carefully took the console from his hand to put it safely aside before brushing his hair back from his face.Â

âNooo⌠Why would you think that?â Ry asked with a giggle, making a poor attempt to hide the already empty bottle of sake, only to knock over the half full one. âOopps..âÂ

Bakura laughed gently at those words, bringing a hand up to cup Ryouâs cheek. âMy sweet Ryou. Our parents, the people, they donât care. War is all they want.â She was cynical about the whole war, hated that it forced her to meet Ryou like this, both covered by heavy cloaks in a clearing in the forest, where neither of their families would find them. âWhat do you suggest, we run away? Forsake our crowns and live in the forest together?âÂ

Bakura rarely got ill and when she did she would be out of commission for a day or two at most and then sheâd be better. She never got ill for extended periods of time. So after two whole weeks of throwing up every morning and subsequently being late into work, she was getting annoyed and her bosses were getting concerned.Â
After they had a talk with her, the wife had gone out for a while, coming back with a small bag, telling Bakura to go home and âtake these testsâ and that theyâd cover her shift for the day, even offering to lighten her work load. Bakura left more than a little confused. She got home to an empty apartment, Ryou still out doing his own thing.Â
To being with Bakura ignored the bag her boss had given her, instead laying on the sofa, a hand over her stomach which for some reason was giving her no end of trouble of late. She stayed like that for at least an hour, just staring up at the ceiling and getting steadily more bored.Â
Giving up she got up, snatching up the bag sheâd been given. Sitting down at the kitchen table she opened the bag up and emptied it out onto the table. Two boxes fell out onto the table before her, one a light blue and the other purple, frowning at them she turned the boxes over so the fronts were facing her, almost immediately dropping them as she read the words on their fronts. Pregnancy Test. Bakura pushed the boxes away as she stood up, the chair clattering as it fell to the floor behind her. Could that even be possible, shakily she brought her hands to her stomach, she was so used to thinking of herself as a Spirit, as a demon she often forgot her body was human.
âFuck... fuck... this canât be real...â She mumbled as she started pacing, tugging at her hair. Her mind alight with all the ways her having a child could go wrong. Paranoia rearing itâs ugly head telling her that Ryou wouldnât even want her child. Shakily she walked back over to the table, opening the boxes she stood, body tense as she read the instructions given in each box. It was simple enough, pee on the stick and wait. Grabbing a few tests from each box she walked to the bathroom, locking the door behind her. She started pacing again, staring at the items in her hands trying to gather up the courage to just take the damned tests.Â
After almost dropping the tests a few times she put them down, bracing herself on the bathroom sink, staring at herself in the mirror before taking a steadying breath and picking up the first test.Â
By the time the front door opened, announcing Ryouâs return, Bakura had done all the tests sheâd taken with her and was stood there staring at the results. All positive. Sheâd dropped them all onto the counter beside her, bracing herself on the sink again. Shakily reaching over she unlocked the bathroom door, waiting for the inevitable.Â
âBakura?â Ryou called out, be it at the noise or at the presence of her coat by the door she didnât know. Staying silent she waited, she could hear him moving around. Going into the living room first, probably dropping his stuff off before he moved over to the kitchen. Thatâs when he stopped moving. Bakura held her breath, her mind already going to the worst.Â
His rushed steps heralded the sound of the door to her side being thrown open. âBakura?!â She looked at him in the mirror, the boxes were held in his hands. Silently she gestured to the tests on the counter, expecting him to get mad, to deny this, to demand she get rid of the child. Who could want her child, the child of a murderous thief. Who could want her in their lives, tied together by a child.
She jolted slightly as his arms wrapped around her from behind, his hands coming to rest on her stomach. âYouâre pregnant.â He spoke as if it was the best thing, no harshness to his voice. Staring at him through the mirror Bakura could only nod her head, this didnât make sense to her. Sure he always told her he loved her but Bakura always had trouble believing it. No one could really love her, not in her mind.Â
Looking at his reflection, seeing only love as he looked at her stomach, holding her close, she could believe that this was real. In that moment she felt like maybe, just maybe this would work, so long as he was there with her.Â
âWeâre going to need a bigger place.â She managed to finally find her voice, her hands raising to rest over his, her head lowering to hide the smile tugging at her lips with her hair.Â
