Good evening one and all it is I Mr Myers and today I'd like to do something a bit different today and taking inspiration from Mr Hare's earlier post and talk about special effects artist Tom Woodruff Jr. A legend in the artistry of creature effects and body performance acting. Tom's most famous works have been both in the Predator and Alien franchise, whilst also been the lead alien actor from James Camerons Aliens to Aliens vs Predator Requiem. Tom's career started whilst under the wing of Stan Winston during the production of Aliens, In 1985, Woodruff helped sculpt the Alien Warrior head at Stan Winston Studio and touched up paint on the head in the workshop at Pinewood Studios. Β Shortly after the Warrior costumes were completed and before filming, Tom stayed late after-hours one night, got into costume, and Richard Landon took the first set of photos of a completed Alien, "without even the benefit of covering the suit in slime as intended for the film." Tom was "more interested in seeing how different body posing could disguise the shape of a man inside the suit than the intended on-screen finished look." In a personal view I find Tom's work and performance acting rather underrated in my opinion, the make up and creature designs are what the fans remember and praise however its Tom presence and skill is what brings us the magic, and rather than rely on heavy CGI, its always glorious to see the old fashion "man in a suit" and Tom is the one of the originals and should be recognised more than he is, and hopefully soon enough we'll see him again on the big screen.
