â Thatâs what heroes are for. â | @horclogiumâ . * THE LAST UNICORN .  / a.
â Is that your hope of such a person existing, or the years between us talking ? â Itâs blunt; expression impassive and body curled flat and limpid upon the bed . Green strands of hair spill across the sheets; rivulets of forest and magic. Thereâs something childish in the comment; so utterly naive and innocent that it earns her a sense of weariness far more than it does any level of scorn. She is too ancient now for scorn; too worn in the bones - the thousands of bodies and corpses mounted to create new skin for a body that reanimated from the macabre.Â
Where was a hero then ? By the flames of the unjust? The clamp of the guillotine ? The weaponry closing around tender flesh and ripping it apart until nothing remained ? Where was the hero then? Where had they been when she was new? Unsullied by curses and morphing into a being that like a fallen apart ship; could no longer recollect which parts were hers?Â
Where was the hero when she sought a simple human wish, a simple prayer, and was denied? Where were the heroes, the just, the pure? Telling their tales of the great Knights of the Round, of King Arthur, of Robin Hood? Where were they when hell began at birth and transcended into an endless, unstoppable cycle of death and rebirth ?Â
Where was the original body within that wrecked ship? Could you call it the same thing?Â
â ... Maybe you should attempt to try to be one yourself , instead of assuming they exist. Remember however, that no one can save everyone. If you or anyone chose such a path, they should be aware that they will always fail someone.
In that story, they are not a hero, but a villain .  You may think it cruel, regardless, the point stands . Humanity is stagnant, it is like a baby, crawling repeatedly and falling into the same mud puddle .Â
Idealism is admirable to some, fleeting at best, but remember half-hearted ideals and beliefs will only harm you in the end. So too do half-hearted hopes. If you want to commit to belief in acts of heroism from Man, from the beings of the world that perhaps may yet be like us, commit to it fully - or not at all. Heroes exist in the perception of what it means to be âsavedâ .Â
To many a child and ailing old woman, to many an injured soldier or innocent... they are without blame . They can save anyone or anything . But there will always be someone left behind . Even if you were omnipotent , you would still be imperfect. Perfection is a delusion in itself.Â
I wonât stop you from your belief system. You have countless years yet to see if that holds true, and if it does, then youâve retained a part of yourself, but thatâs another topic I donât feel like talking about . I think Iâve said more than could last me three naps.
However, I wonder.. are you wishing for salvation or are you wishing to give it because you yourself, are conflicted? Huh. Perhaps both. Still..heroes are subjective. Two halves of a coin, real and unreal. Fools and saviors. They are real to some because they came, and paltry to others because they didnât. I wonât deny it, I know all too well. Still.. âÂ
Her smile turns wry as she sits up to face her; eyes crinkling in something unfathomably worn, itâs too sad, one might say, looking into the ancient beingâs eyes. Her grace, the weight of her years compacted into not a single, not once, happy moment...itâs too sad, too sad, too sadsad-Â
( â â They just never came for me. â )Â
