SKYLAR flinches instinctively on contact before realizing that melody isn’t hurting her, won’t hurt her.  shaking arms wrap around her in return and she nearly wails, crying harder as she sinks to her knees, dragging melody down with her.  no one had been kind to her after she’d made a mistake, and it had surprised her.  of course, she knew melody wouldn’t hurt her, but she’d expected at the very least disappointment.  everyone was disappointed in her at some point.  the force of her sobs made her shoulders shake and she clung to melody like a child.  she cried until her chest ached and her throat was sore, and then cried for a little more before finally drying her eyes on her sleeve.

❝ ‘m s-sorry.  ‘m just…..s-so used t-to…d-disappointment a-and anger a-and…..’m not….n-not used t-to kindness j-just yet. ❞  her voice was raspy and hoarse but she looked at melody with red eyes and a sad smile.   ❝ ……e-everyone y-yells at me.  o-or….or something.  t-they rub it i-in my f-face that i d-did something wrong. ❞  one arm unwrapped to grip at her shirt, her heart clenching painfully as she spoke.   ❝ ‘t’s exhausting, mel.  i-i don’t want t-to try to b-be perfect anymore.  ‘m too tired. ❞

          she sinks down to her knees with skylar as she drags her down. exhaling a small sigh, she just holds onto her tighter, resting her chin atop skylar’s head and running her fingers through her hair. with her other hand, she gently rubs the other’s back, hoping the soothing gesture will help calm her down. she wishes she wasn’t so afraid of melody yelling at her or lashing out or being disappointed in her, because it’s just not something she’d do. she hopes she knows this, because such thoughts of doing so has never crossed her mind. she just wants skylar to know that she’s not a disappointment to her just because of one little mistake, and she wants her to know melody loves her and cares about her and would never, EVER think of hurting her.
