“I’m sorry” Janus whispered, curling in on himself and gripping tightly onto Remus’s arms, “I’m trying. It’s not my fault, I didn’t want to leave”

Virgil entered the room, and the shadows seemed to swirl at his feet. He grinned mirthlessly, “Well well well, who do we have here? I didn’t expect to see you way out here Remus, especially not after what you did to me. And look! You were stupid enough to come alone. I won’t even need my shiny new toy to deal with you.”
Remus pushed Janus behind him and widened his stance, “I said I was sorry Virgil. I regret everything I did, and I want to make it up to you.”
Virgil’s expression soured, “You can make it up to me by giving me control of the mindscape.”
“I- You know I can’t do that” Remus looked regretful.
“Well then I want you to suffer. Suffer like you made me suffer,” Virgil hissed out, throwing his hands forward. The shadows in the room collected into one bolt and hurtled towards Remus’s chest.
Before they could hit Remus, Janus shoved Remus to the side, the bolt of shadows striking him square in the chest. Janus collapsed onto the ground.
Remus snarled, and scooped Janus up, taking advantage of Virgil’s surprise to push past him and sprint into the hall.

Remus tried to stand up, but couldn’t while holding Janus. “Hey, Jan” He coaxed softly, “We need to get up now, ok?”
Janus shook his head, “Just leave without me.”

“I’m not letting go until you say you won’t take me with you,” Janus said stubbornly.
“Fine. Fine.” Remus gently pushed Janus off him, “I- I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to” He stood up, but froze when he heard Virgil’s footsteps coming down the hall.
