Person: which one of you gentlemen is third-wheeling?

Another college au one-shot, inspired by one of @allorana‘s headcanons (Hunay and Shallura are the only ships. PLEASE DO NOT TAG WITH OTHER SHIP TAGS) 

It was a quiet enough evening at Shiro’s apartment. Most of the gang was there, minus Matt, who was staying late at the computer lab to finish a project. It was midterm season, and most of the group was studying. Hunk had finally invited Shay over so they could study for their Bio class together. He and Shay sat together on the couch, looking over their textbooks and filling out the study questions, occasionally quizzing each other.

The rest of the group couldn’t resist peeking at them and smirking once in a while, but only when they were sure Shay and Hunk weren’t looking. Shiro had his “proud dad” smile on, while Lance was grinning.

Hunk had had a crush on Shay since the beginning of the semester—a crush which the whole gang could tell was reciprocated. This study “date” was the first time that Hunk had made any type of move towards Shay. Getting Hunk to ask Shay to come over had taken some “fatherly” advice from Shiro, a pep talk from Allura, some flirting advice and suggestions of bad pick-up lines from Lance (which everyone had groaned at), and a blunt statement from Keith to “just ask her out already.”  

Pidge indulged in another smirk. This study date was a good sign. Pidge usually didn’t care that much about other people’s romances, but if she could tell that two people liked each other, then they needed to just get together already.

But this was kind of boring. No romance-type thingeys were happening. They were honestly just studying for their test.

All of the sudden, Pidge got an idea. An awful idea. Pidge got a wonderful, awful idea.  

She couldn’t resist. Every little sister, older-brother teasing impulse in her body was screaming at her not to pass up this opportunity.

She turned to Keith, who was reading next to her on the couch. She would have preferred Lance, the self-proclaimed Disney guru of the group, to help with this, but Lance would hopefully catch on soon enough. Besides, she was curious to see how Keith would react.

“I can see what’s happening,” she said, rather offhandedly.

“What?” Keith said, confused and distracted by his book. Pidge snickered.  

“And they don’t have a clue!” she continued.

“Who doesn’t have a clue?” Keith said, looking up. He still hadn’t caught on.

Everyone else had though, including Hunk, who could smell a Disney song a mile away. His head shot up, and he glared at Pidge. “What are you-“

“They’ll fall in love, and here’s the bottom line, our trio’s down to two!” Pidge sang.

‘Wha-oh. OH.” Keith said, eyes widening. A sneaky grin lifted over his face. Pidge grinned as well.

“The sweet caress of twilight, there’s magic everywhere…” Pidge waved her hands, imitating Timon’s hand gestures. “And with all this romantic atmosphere-“

“DISASTER’S IN THE AIR!” belted Lance, like the dramatic Disney-loving, theater kid he was. 

“Guys!” Hunk hissed. But his face was red. So was Shay’s.

“CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT?” Keith, Pidge, and Lance sang (Keith, admittedly, a lot quieter than the other two). “THE PEACE THE EVENING BRINGS-“

“Shut up!”

“THE WORLD FOR ONCE, IN PERFECT HARMONY, WITH ALL ITS LIVING THINGS---“

“SHIRO, MAKE THEM STOP!”

There was an awkward pause at the next part, the three looking at each other to figure out who should sing the next part. Lance had just opened his mouth, presumably to take over the part, when-

“So many things to tell her—“ Shiro’s smooth voice broke in. “But how to make her see?”

“SHIRO!” Hunk looked furious, and he was now beet red. But Shiro continued with the verse, with Lance looking rather startled that Shiro had so neatly stolen his chance for the spotlight. At the end, Allura decided to step in.

“He’s holding back, he’s hiding—“ she sang, walking over behind the couch that Hunk and Shay sat on, placing her hands on his shoulders. “And from what, I can’t decide. Why won’t he be the king I know he is, the king I see inside?”

“I swear I won’t make you guys dinner for the next TEN YEARS.”

“CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT, THE PEACE THE EVENING BRINGS—“ they all belted. They continued through the next couple of stanzas, all of them (except Keith) swaying. Hunk continued to complain and make various threats about not baking birthday cakes or cookies for varying amounts of time.

At the end, Pidge resumed her initial role as Timon. “And if he falls in love tonight, it can be assumed-“

Lance, seeing another chance to regain his Disney karaoke crown, broke in. “His carefree days, with us are history...”

Pidge and Lance sang the last line together. “IN SHORT OUR PAL, IS DOOMED…”

Pidge and Lance fell into each other’s arms, heaving dramatic fake sobs.

No one spoke, so Pidge glanced up. Shay was trying to hide a smile, even though she was blushing. And Hunk was still fuming on the couch, glaring at all of them and thus baring a rare-and uncanny- resemblance to Keith.
